Do you enjoy developing our youth and working with teens in middle and high school? The Irving YMCA is searching for a cause-driven leader to be a full-time Youth Development Director. In this position you would be responsible for the year-round development, organization, delivery and quality of YMCA programs catering to this group.
Areas of Responsibility:
Teen Summer Day Camp
- Currently, 15 to 24 participants depending on the week with opportunity to expand and grow.
- Coordinate and market programand implement Teen Camp according licensing standards, utilizing part time staff and community resources.
- Develop quality summer program opportunities for the middle and high school students in the service area.
Youth & Government
- Currently at 3 sites and totals approximately 60 delegates with opportunity to expand and grow.
- Develop, manage and implement the Youth and Government and Model United Nations Program utilizing volunteers and community resources.
- Cultivate relationships with community leaders and agencies to develop collaborative partners throughout the core YMCA service area.
Achievers
- Currently at 2 sites with opportunity to expand and grow. Develop, manage and implement the Achievers Program utilizing volunteers and community resources.
- Cultivate relationships with all Irving schools to establish and grow achievers programming.
Additional Irving YMCA Teen Program Responsibilities
- Work with all branch committees to ensure a teen focus is present in all major program areas and that there is a strategy to embrace and retain teens in our membership.
- Develop, monitor and supervise all teen programs related to teen leadership, education, personal development, life skills and job readiness, ensuring that all programs have outcomes related to the Y of the USA inAchievement, Belonging and Relationships.
- Assist all branch departments with developing programs that are focused on middle school and high school populations using the YMCA standards.
- Develop and monitor budget for teen programs to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assist Executive Director, Association Teen Director and Development Office with the application of grant funding; maintaining responsibility to deliver grant outcomes and utilize methods with which to report on those outcomes at specified reporting periods.
- Lead the teen team during the annual Partner's Campaign which raises funds to assist families that need financial assistance.
- Keep abreast of teen trends in the nation, state and community regarding what affects teens and their lives. Stay connected with teen coalitions and other organizations that serve teens, forming and maintaining relationships that serve YMCA programs.
- Conduct periodic self-assessment and community assessments/surveys to determine the needs of teens in the Irving service area.
- We invite you to develop new programs or modify existing programs as needed in alignment with the Strategic Plan of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and the Irving YMCA.
- Manage the YMCA's portion of responsibility with the Community Collaborations, as well as Irving ISD collaborations.
- Coordinate meetings with schools, businesses, counseling department and District Irving ISD Administration.
- Specifically responsible for hosting and scheduling Baccalaureate Services.
- Participate in planning of Future Leaders of Irving and SRC programming.
- Provide Staff Leadership to the Branch Board's Youth Development Committee.
- Workwith Committee Chair to guide the agenda and ensure that the work is meaningful for our volunteers.
- Provide monthly committee report for Board Meetings.
- Work withthe Advancing Our Cause team on a regional basis to further development and goals within the Dallas Association.
Educational Background:
Bachelor Degree preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth, preferably teens.
- Must have flexible schedule with availability on some evenings/weekends as required for success of programs.
- Leadership, supervision, and management experience preferred in a youth services, family support, or K-12 educational setting.
- Ability to problem solve and anticipate challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic. Highly positive and enthusiastic style capable of motivating others.
- Sensitive to cultural backgrounds and experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, etc.)
- Good role model to young people in personal character, integrity, and behavior.
- Ability to multi-task, be creative, energetic, and stay flexible.
- Experience with budget management program development, and evaluation.
- The person in this position needs to have a varied background in recruiting, scheduling and supporting staff and campers in our summer programs.
- Should possess skills in managing multiple priorities, communications & customer relations, motivating staff & volunteers, supervision, staff selection, training and evaluation.
- Ability to meet deadlines and build relationships with volunteers and participants to maintain those deadlines.
- Develop relationships to ensure staff and volunteers reflect the community and enhance the support of the Y
- Provide volunteers and staff with orientation, training, development, and recognition.
- Obtain & maintain required training for this position.
- The incumbent must be an effective communicator, supervisor, trainer and mentor to program staff.
- Ability to make sound judgments & decisions and handle irate complaining or demanding individuals in a calm manner, must recognize & respect all sensitive information and utilize confidentiality accordingly.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $36,700.00 - $40,000.00
