The Coppell Family YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Director that can make a positive impact on the lives of our members and provide leadership to the Aquatics department. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will coordinate and supervise the operations of the aquatic department and major areas of aquatic programs. This includes providing program support, maintaining certification records, scheduling staff, and assisting in ensuring pool safety and proper maintenance.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • This position leads the number of swim lessons for the Dallas Y Association, with 3600+ swim lessons per year and requires an individual with a high level of aquatics, budgeting, scheduling, supervising,and swim lessons experience.
  • In addition, the Aquatics Director provides day-to-day supervision of assigned aquatic programs for the indoor pool at the Coppell YMCA.
  • Responsibilities include scheduling lifeguards and instructors, ensuring coverage meets Association guidelines and standards.
  • In addition, the Aquatic Director will assist with the development, coordination, promotion and evaluation of aquatic programs and activities such as swim lessons, swim team (youth), aquatic certification classes, and lap/recreational swim.
  • The Aquatics Director will plan and meet and/or exceed approved annual budget of approximately $400k, will be responsible for staffing programs, and complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.
  • This position will hire, train, schedule, develop, and supervise staff and volunteers for all aquatic programs.
  • The Aquatics Director will provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign which helps raise funds for families that need financial assistance.
  • He/She will be responsible for promoting the aquatics programs to the public and to current members. They must ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
  • He/She will oversee and manage off-site pools as a part of the YMCA Safety Around Water Outreach initiative as needed.
  • The Aquatics Director will represent the branch at various groups and meetings related to aquatics and be an active participant as a part of the management team for the branch.
  • They will provide data and reports on assigned programs in support the planning process of the branch and Association.
  • Must be an energetic relationship builder with strong communication skills and be able to work with a diverse population.
  • He/she maintains accurate records of staff certifications and training compliance, monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, and conducts lifeguard, swim instructor, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • He/she will teach classes and lifeguard as necessary, will provide ongoing in-service training and safety checks for aquatic staff.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in physical education, recreation, or related field or equivalent education or experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in an aquatics program, including program development and budget management.
  • Ability to train swim instructors and lifeguards.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and motivate staff members.
  • Ensure staff meet training requirements and are compliant with training and safety policies.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Familiarity with personal computers helpful.
  • Requires trainer-level certified in YMCA Swim Lessons – Youth & Adult and/or YMCA Swim Lessons – Parent/Child and Preschool Instructor, Adapted Lessons, Water Fitness Instructor, Pool Operator on Location, First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications required.
  • Prefer Trainer Certification in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
  • Must have excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a diversity of people and various levels of personnel.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $39,000.00 - $45,000.00
