We seek a Director of Talent Recruitment to lead Teach For America – Indy’s regional recruitment work as well as regional confirmation and matriculation of incoming corps members. These core work streams provide an unparalleled opportunity to attract and compel top, diverse talent to lead in Indianapolis to further fuel education momentum and accelerate the growth of excellent schools. Building upon progress in Indy education, the Director of Talent Recruitment should be comfortable setting a clear and compelling vision, crafting both short- and long-term strategies, and be relentlessly focused on accomplishing ambitious results. He/she needs to be comfortable and confident engaging directly with diverse prospects and members – particularly incoming corps members and alumni – and influencing others to achieve outcomes. Further, he/she needs to have an exceptional ability to manage the execution of work plans and meticulously track execution of highest leverage strategies, adjusting as needed and taking calculated risks to reach outcomes.
The Director of Talent Recruitment will report directly to and work closely with the Managing Director of Talent and will be a part of a three-person Talent team. He/she will also work closely with members of the national Recruitment Team, diverse student organizations at prioritized colleges & universities, and will build relationships with key local education organizations in the Indianapolis landscape to drive regional recruitment priorities.
Set, own, and execute our vision and strategy for regional recruitment work (60%)
- Set vision and direction as well as drive execution of regional recruitment of incoming corps members with a focus on diversity – percent identifying as people of color & percent identifying as coming from a low-income background
- Set vision and direction as well as drive execution of regional recruitment of external alumni to the Indianapolis region with a focus on overall scale and diversity – number of external alumni identifying as people of color
- Set vision and direction for recruitment of more senior alumni in subsequent fiscal years; begin operationalizing and initiating this work at an initial scale
- Plan, own, and execute site visits for incoming corps members and external alumni to Indianapolis; additionally, plan, own, and execute trips to neighboring cities to engage incoming corps members and alumni. Engage the Managing Director, Talent on trips to neighboring cities to support in the recruitment of more senior-level alumni
- Collaborate with and facilitate handoff with Director, Talent Placement & Matching to support the placement of incoming corps members + alumni recruited
- Develop system to learn about incoming member interests & motivations to enable Program team to inform future programming accordingly
- Build strong partnerships with national Recruitment Team members at prioritized colleges and universities; engage student organizations of color and work alongside national Recruitment Team to source, cultivate, tag, and compel diverse pipeline of incoming corps member prospects to come to Indianapolis
- Build relationships with key local education organizations (e.g., Educate Me, 100 Black Men) to cultivate a diverse pipeline of highly competitive local talent as prospects to the corps
- Set vision and direction for Indy homegrown talent initiative with focus on high school seniors as future pipeline of locally sourced talent. Drive execution in this domain including building relationships with prioritized Recruitment Team members to effectively engage college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
- Develop and evolve relationships in the landscape grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy
- Leverage the latest research and innovations in Recruitment domain as well as member profile research (e.g., Millennial insights research) nationally at TFA and broadly in the field, and evolve strategies to reflect the research
- Work alongside leader of Strategic Communications initiative to ensure strategic alignment of key Indy regional recruitment messages with Talent function and broader regional communications priorities
- Collaborate with Director, Talent Placement & Matching to host a hiring weekend for alumni talent as a strategy for attracting external alumni talent to Indianapolis
Set, own, and execute our vision and strategy for confirmation and matriculation of incoming corps members (20%)
- Set vision and direction for regional confirmation strategy and drive execution at each confirmation window throughout the year by laterally managing regional team colleagues
- Manage regional assignment smoothing process at each confirmation window
- Liaise with national Admissions team throughout the year to manage corps member deferrals, regional reassignments, matriculation extension requests, and other special processes
- Read Matriculation Manager blasts from the national team and complete all action items related to confirmation and matriculation of incoming corps members. Collaborate with Corps Member Development team regarding Matriculation Manager responsibilities that functional team is owning
- Facilitate the handoff of incoming corps members and alumni recruited to the Director, Talent Placement & Matching to ensure placement/hiring of these individuals
- Support cross-functional collaboration with Corps Member Development and Network Impact teams to ensure strong handoff of members matriculated (e.g., to onboarding processes)
Serve as member of the Talent team and cultural leader within region (10%)
- Inform the strategic direction of Talent team as a senior leader of the region
- Establish strong partnerships with the community grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy

- Participate in our region’s corps member selection, matriculation, induction, and ongoing engagement initiatives
- Attend regional meetings and retreats held throughout the year, bi-weekly staff meetings, and occasional conferences and trainings

- Experience working directly with low-income communities
- Prior experience as a recruiter required
- Experience working in the Indianapolis education landscape preferred, but not necessary
Work Demands
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
- Moderate travel required to various parts of Indiana and neighboring states, on average, 2-3 times a month
