We seek a Director of Talent Placement & Matching to lead Teach For America – Indy’s member placement and talent matching work for incoming and current corps members as well as alumni. These core work streams provide an unparalleled opportunity to place members from within and outside of the Indianapolis region in positions aligned to their motivations and interests while helping our partners meet their demand for top, diverse talent. Through learning about the short- and long-term Indy education talent demand and strategically placing and matching talent in roles, this work stream will accelerate the growth of excellent schools, support the retention of members in Indianapolis, and contribute to maximizing the momentum in the Indy education landscape. The Director of Talent Placement & Matching should be comfortable setting a clear and compelling vision, crafting both short- and long-term strategies, and be relentlessly focused on accomplishing ambitious results. He/she needs to be comfortable and confident engaging directly with diverse members – particularly incoming corps members, current corps members, and alumni – and influencing others to achieve outcomes, particularly in complex external environments. Further, he/she needs to have an exceptional ability to manage the execution of work plans and meticulously track execution of highest leverage strategies, adjusting as needed and taking calculated risks to reach outcomes.
The Director of Talent Placement & Matching will report directly to and work closely with the Managing Director of Talent and will be a part of a three-person Talent team. He/she will also work closely with principal and school network partners, university partners, and other external stakeholders in the Indianapolis landscape to drive key placement and talent matching priorities.
Set, own, and execute our vision and strategy for member Placement work (40%)
- Set vision and direction for as well as drive execution of placement-related processes for members (incoming corps members, current corps members, and alumni)
- Set vision for and manage planning and execution of hiring fairs and hiring-related events for incoming corps members, current corps members, and alumni
- Manage any current corps member placement situations (e.g., displacements, terminations, etc.) in alignment with our Corps Member Policies & Procedures
- Manage and own principal relationships and stewardship including, but not limited to, beginning-of-year principal meetings; communicate shifts in corps member development model aligned with the Theory of Leadership and Theory of Leadership Development with partners and ensure strategic alignment & clarity at the partner level; strategically steward relationships with principals to continually increase demand for member talent
- Share Professional Development opportunities and regionally-led sessions with partners for staff at partner schools to attend alongside corps members and alumni
- Collaborate with and facilitate handoff from Director, Talent Recruitment to place incoming corps members + alumni recruited
- Collaborate with Director, Talent Recruitment to host a hiring weekend for alumni talent as a strategy for recruiting and placing external alumni talent in Indianapolis
- Support with ongoing management and execution of University Partnerships work, particularly as it relates to incoming corps member placement & management
- Develop and evolve relationships in the landscape grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy
- Leverage the latest research and innovations in Placement/Talent Matching domain as well as member profile research (e.g., Millennial insights research) nationally at TFA and broadly in the field, and evolve strategies to reflect the research
- Work alongside leader of Strategic Communications initiative to ensure strategic alignment of key Indy Placement messages with Talent function and broader regional communications priorities
Set, own, and execute our vision and strategy for member Talent Matching work (40%)
- Set vision and direction for Talent Matching work with 2nd year corps members and alumni talent matching
- Conduct landscape analysis to learn about and source external talent demand in landscape; serve as regional point person for any talent sourcing/intaking requests; build systematic understanding of Indy talent demand in short- and long-term (over next 5 years) to support growth of excellent schools
- Leverage enhanced member Talent Matching through portfolio management approach and TFA Connect platform to match 2nd year corps members and alumni
- Engage in 1:1 meetings with prioritized 2nd year corps members to begin actively matching talent to sourced role demand in alignment with their motivations/interests
- Support cross-functional collaboration with Corps Member Development and Network Impact teams to ensure retention of members through strong talent matching, programmatic, and network experiences
- Work alongside leader of Strategic Communications initiative to ensure strategic alignment of key Indy Talent Matching messages with Talent function and broader regional communications priorities
- Build initial relationships with non-education partners to elevate brand presence as talent pipeline in Indy and support with member role matching/alumni recruitment
Serve as member of the Talent team and cultural leader within region (10%)
- Inform the strategic direction of Talent team as a senior leader of the region
- Establish strong partnerships with the community grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy

- Participate in our region’s corps member selection, matriculation, induction, and ongoing engagement initiatives
- Attend regional meetings and retreats held throughout the year, bi-weekly staff meetings, and occasional conferences and trainings
Priority Areas
- Placement of members (incoming corps members + alumni)
- Matches facilitated for 2nd year corps members (2CMs) + alumni
- Retention of 2nd year corps members (2CMs) to alumnihood + retention of TFA-Indy alumni
- Learning and engagement on Talent team and broader regional team including, but not limited to, domains within Placement/Talent Matching work and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness
- 4+ years professional work experience demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility, with demonstrated success in all or most of the relevant work domains (setting vision and direction as well as managing execution of placement and talent matching work, etc.)
- Experience working directly with low-income communities
- Prior experience as a school or systems leader preferred, but not necessary
- Experience working in the Indianapolis education landscape highly preferred, but not necessary
Work Demands
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
- Minimal travel required – approx. 2-4 times per year
