Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Health and Wellness is responsible for the administration and direction of the health and Wellness programs and supervision of the Wellness Center staff. The candidate’s key function is to build strong lasting relationships with members and employees that will build healthy lifestyles. Assure that programs and facilities exceed goals and objectives of the YMCA of Indiana County.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and implement wellness and lifestyle programs, personal training and group exercise participation through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration. Direct staff to support health and wellness initiatives to achieve retention goals.
  • Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the Wellness department.
  • Ensure proper implementation of wellness floor schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
  • Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Wellness department. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance wellness participation and member retention.
  • Plan and execute Healthy Living events at the Y. Promote the YMCA of Indiana County’s special events among the members and community.
  • Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate team members for the department. Supervise department staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
  • Collaborate with other Directors to drive staff recruitment, development and retention.
  • Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings.
  • Plan and manage the Wellness budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
  • Work approximately 9 hr/wk providing members personal training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
This position requires a Bachelors Degree in a health and wellness field or equivalent as well as experience in managing facilities, equipment, budget and staff.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of health fitness programs as well as obtaining YMCA fitness certifications.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $28,000.00 - $32,000.00
