Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Aquatics is responsible for the leadership and delivery of the aquatic programs including: swim lessons, private lessons, swim team, lifeguard certification classes, and aquatic training events. In addition, the Director of Aquatics will supervisor the Manager of our outdoor pool operation in the summer. The incumbent will show a commitment to Y Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Must possess good organizational, communication and supervisory skills.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Aquatics department. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance participation and member satisfaction and retention.
- Recruit, select, develop, retain and supervise appropriate team members for the department. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
- Create and implement aquatics programs through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration.
- Manage pool schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
- Plan and manage the Aquatics budget.
- Support all major aquatic programs: swim lessons, private lessons, lifeguard certification, swim team, water exercise.
- Provide team leadership to all off-site aquatic programs.
- Other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
This position requires a Bachelors Degree in a health and wellness field or equivalent as well as experience in managing facilities, equipment, budget and staff.
Skills/Experience:
- The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of aquatics programs in addition to have aquatic certifications.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, fun loving and able to work a wide variety of people and ages.
- Ability to lead and participate in a range of aquatic programs.
- Ability to lead a group of children in a manner that helps them grow in their knowledge, skills and capabilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills with an ability to negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedicated to the mission of the YMCA.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Required Certifications
- CPR, First Aid, AED & Lifeguard certifications
- Swim Lesson/Water Safety Instructor preferred
- Lifeguard Instructor preferred
- Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- PA Pesticide Applicator certification within 90 days of hire
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $28,000.00 - $34,000.00
