Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Aquatics & Wellness is responsible for the leadership and delivery of the aquatic & wellness programs including: swim lessons, private lessons, swim team, lifeguard certification classes, Mack Park Pool, group exercise classes, personal training and more. In addition, the Director will supervisor the Manager of the Mack Park pool operation in the summer. The incumbent will show a commitment to Y Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Must possess good organizational, communication and supervisory skills.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Create and implement aquatics & wellness programs through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration.
- Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the aquatics & wellness departments.
- Ensure proper implementation of pool, gymnasium, fitness center and group exercise schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
- Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of both departments. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance aquatics participation and member retention.
- Plan and execute Healthy Living events at the Y. Promote the YMCA of Indiana County’s special events among the members and community.
- Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate team members for the department. Supervise department staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
- Collaborate with other Directors to drive staff recruitment, development and retention.
- Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings.
- Plan and manage the Aquatics and Wellness budgets.
- Schedules and supervises lifeguards provided to the IASD Junior High pool.
- Supervise the 2 coordinators that will assist in leadership of the Aquatics & Wellness Departments.
- Mack Park Swimming Pool
- Ensure the highest quality of programs and highest member satisfaction possible.
- Acts as liaison between management team and staff for communication purposes.
- Other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a health and wellness field or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
- Experience in managing facilities, equipment, budget and staff. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of aquatics & wellness programs in addition to having the appropriate certifications.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, fun loving and able to work a wide variety of people and ages.
- CPR, First Aid, AED & Lifeguard certifications
- Water Safety Instructor
- Lifeguard Instructor
- Personal Training certification preferred
- Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- PA Pesticide Applicator within 90 days of hire
- Ability to lead and participate in a range of aquatic programs.
- Ability to lead a group of children in a manner that helps them grow in their knowledge, skills and capabilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills with an ability to negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedicated to the mission of the YMCA.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00
