The YMCA of Greater Houston is currently seeking an experienced Youth Development Director-Sports & Aquatics for the West Orem Family YMCA.

Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA youth sports and aquatics programs with an emphasis on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values in to program activities.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth sports and aquatics programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed.Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Assist in YMCA special events and fund raising activities.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

Sports:

  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Coordinates with photography vendor. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment, uniforms and awards as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.

Aquatics:

  • Works with Center Facility Technician to monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of aquatic program information.
  • Attends Aquatics Cabinets Meetings to stay current regarding pertinent Aquatic information.
  • Maintains and updates all Aquatic Records including in service training records, safety drills, and skills testing.
  • Ensures that all Aquatic Staff are knowledgeable and proficient in implementation of center emergency action plans. Is responsible to see that expectations are met regarding Aquatic facility and program audits.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:

  • One to two years related experience operating a sports and/or aquatics program with multiple locations.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with children and adults.
  • Desire to work with children and the ability to relate to them in a positive, patient, sensitive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications including but not limited to: Lifeguard Certification and Swim Instructor
  • Completion of following training requirements:

Prior to first scheduled shift:

  • Online training for Child Abuse Prevention, Work Place Harassment & Bullying, Universal Precautions, Information Security and Awareness.
  • Within first 30 days of employment:
  • ASHI trainings for CPR-Pro, AED, Oxygen and First Aid
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $45,000.00 - $48,000.00
