Youth Development Director - School Age Enrichment

The YMCA of Greater Houston is currently seeking an experienced Youth Development Director-Afterschool/Day Camp.

Develops, organizes and implements high-quality YMCA school-age enrichment programs with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Ensures sites are safe, values-oriented and properly staffed in accordance with State minimum standards and YMCA policy. Plan and implement after school curriculum and youth development enrichment programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school-age enrichment and day camp programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high-quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  • Ensures youth are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with each child.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • 3-5 years previous experience including 2 years supervisory experience in licensed childcare preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must meet Director qualifications as stated in the Minimum Standards (#744.1015) under TDPRS.
  • Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00
