The YMCA of Greater Houston is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Member Services/Healthy Living Director to serve the Houston Texans YMCA. This Y has an operating budget of $1.1 millin with 1238m membership units and offers 48 Group Exercise classes per week.
Directs all aspects of member services for the center including recruitment of new members and retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Responsible for the day to day operations of the Healthy Living Department including personal/group training, group exercise, Smart Start and the Wellness Floor.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development.
- Coordinates special events and activities.
- Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
- Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
- Leads assigned aspects of the Annual Support Campaign.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings and special events.
Member Services
- Implements member service strategies that promote retention of existing members. Organizes assigned staff to support retention goals. Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member satisfaction.
- Ensures new members are properly introduced and integrated into programs and services based on the needs analysis interview. Works closely with Healthy Living team and Executive team to ensure new member fitness goals and satisfaction are met.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Ensures quality control for all on-line membership joins.
- Responds to and resolves elevated member concerns.
- Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
- Oversees the record keeping and processes associated with member services including MFA, third party pay arrangements, terms/holds and Daxko. Ensures compliance with membership policies including proper filing and storage of membership files.
- Conducts tours of facility and sells memberships in the absence of a Sales Associate.
- Provides oversight to the Childwatch Department.
Healthy Living
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Director supervision of all health and wellness programs including group exercise, small group training, personal training, chronic disease prevention and wellness floor.
- Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
- Ensures staff maintain current certifications.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in healthy living programs. Develops Group Exercise schedules to ensure member needs and are met.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in business, health, nutrition, exercise science or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Previous supervisory experience in healthy living program management or customer service preferred.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- Certifications in Group Exercise and/or Personal Training preferred.
- Bilingual in English & Spanish preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications required upon hire.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00
