As an MTLD, you manage, coach, and develop our corps members from the moment they confirm to the Houston region through alumnihood to fundamentally transform the lives of students and inspire corps members to become lifelong advocates for educational equity. We are looking for an educator who has a successful record of results and who is passionate about coaching a cohort of 25-30 teachers to focus not only on transformational teaching in the classroom but inspiring clarity as to each corps member’s long-term role in the mission towards educational equity.
The ideal candidate should have an extremely strong instructional background as well as demonstrated skill in building relationships across multiple levels: students, families, school team, and community members. During the summer, you would support Houston Huddle institute school sites in various roles. For this specific role, the MTLD would be supporting primarily Middle and High School Science and Math Corps Members.
Coaching and Empowering Corps Members’ Instructional and Personal Leadership (75%)
- Provide in person and virtual coaching instruction for corps members on leadership, instructional techniques, classroom management, and curriculum in order for them to achieve their vision for students to reach expanded outcomes.
- Build authentic relationships and strategies for corps members to cultivate meaningful relationships with the students, their students’ families, and the communities they serve.
- Support corps members in accessing professional development with diverse stakeholders.
Lead Across the Movement (25%)
- Communicate with principals, parents, and community leaders regularly to become an engaged member of the community.
- Continuously access ways to develop your own coaching and leadership skills.
- Serve as an active member of the regional team in ways to accomplish the Regional Vision.
- Design and facilitate professional development sessions for Corps Members and community partners.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle school or high school Science and Math
- Demonstrated evidence of achieving ambitious outcomes in a low-income community
- Deep knowledge of effective teaching and coaching practices
- Data driven and culturally responsive leader
- Experience in coaching teachers, leading adults, or adult facilitation preferred
- Teach For America corps member experience preferred
