Teach For America–Houston seeks a Manager, Corps Member Programming who will accelerate the impact of corps members by designing learning experiences that will accelerate strong measurable improvements in teacher proficiency and student learning. The Manager, Corps Member Programming will oversee ongoing professional learning opportunities by hiring, training and managing a team of part-time content consultants. The Manager, Corps Member Programming will plan and design all Induction programming and will partner with the Director,, Events who will own the logistics and operations of induction.  

This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual who enjoys creating and supporting group learning experiences, building relationships, influencing others, and impacting students through layers, and has experience directly or laterally managing adults. An individual would be especially motivated in this role if s/he is energized by project planning, thinking creatively about teacher leadership development, and building upon what we have learned in the last three years to incorporate our best, prioritized work during a year of more limited resources. This role will also contribute to national and regional goals and initiatives by participating in initiatives such as selection and matriculating new corps members to Houston.

You will report directly to the Managing Director, Teacher Leadership Development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Curriculum at Houston’s Summer Institute (20%)

  • Vet programming and providing instructional support (design and facilitation) Winter-Summer
  • Contribute to a limited number of planning/preparation priorities for the 2019 Institute
  • Work closely and in partnership with school-based leadership (i.e. principal and teachers) to ensure smooth implementation of a summer school program that helps students reach goals and prepares corps members for successful teaching
  • Work closely with Faculty Advisors including involvement with their training and monitoring the impact of coaching and mentorship to corps members 

Ongoing Professional Learning for Corps Members (75%)

  • Determine strategy for prioritizing and implementing archived learning experiences for professional development; design and oversee design of new experiences
  • Provide recommendations on rigorous end-of-year assessments to Managers of Teacher Leadership Development and Houston corps members across multiple content areas
  • Hire and manage an expanded team of paid (hourly) consultants who  deliver and/or design professional development and additional  targeted corps member support
  • Lead all planning and program execution for all corps member and Induction experiences (finalizing all sessions and experiences, collaborating with the regional events lead who will be responsible for all logistical planning, collaborating with the Director of Institute Operations, create all regional staff training in preparation for Induction, etc.)

  • Participate in recruitment events, multiple selection windows, matriculation, etc.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Exceptional track record of designing adult facilitation, impacting student learning, and modeling core values
  • Exceptional organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to execute in a fast paced work environment
  • Successful track record of managing the execution of groups of adults
  • Sophisticated ability to influence others (peers and/or corps members) to achieve outcomes
  • Experience working on the TFA-Houston regional team strongly preferred

 Work Demands

  • Be able to work weekends and evenings, as necessary
  • Be able to travel up to 3 times per year for conferences and professional development
