The Tellepsen Downtown Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic, innovative, highly motivated, Healthy Living Director to oversee our Health and Wellness Department.  The Tellepsen Y has 8,776 membership units and we offer over 171 group exercise classes per week and generate more than $280,000 in personal training and other wellness related revenue annually.  Our facility houses 4 group exercise studios, a group cycling studio, a Yoga studio and a TRX Training studio.  We are seeking a transformational, servant leader to take our Health and Wellness Department to the next level.

Responsible for the day to day operations of the Healthy Living Department including group exercise and chronic disease prevention programs. This position will also work with the Member Services Director to develop strategies to increase member retention and engagement. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Director supervision of all health and wellness programs including group exercise and chronic disease prevention programs.
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff including Group Exercise Instructors. Facilitates communication and provides leadership.
  • Ensures staff maintain current certifications.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in healthy living programs. Develops Group Exercise schedules to ensure member needs and are met.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development.
  • Coordinates special events and activities.
  • Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in health, nutrition, exercise science or related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Certifications in Group Exercise and/or Personal Training preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $52,000.00 - $58,000.00
