Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic leadership in philanthropy and financial development and marketing and communications to advance the YMCA’s mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts, and capital campaigns. Assist the CEO in developing an actively engaged philanthropic volunteer board of directors, and in the positioning of the YMCA as a “charity of choice” for the investment of donations within the local community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Incorporate the Y’s mission and values into the organization’s vision and strategies. Work to ensure community engagement and promote the global nature of the Y. Leads a culture of volunteerism ensuring engagement, inclusion, and ownership. Leads a culture of philanthropy.
  • Manage the cultivation and solicitation of corporations, individuals and foundations.
  • Advocate for and institutionalize inclusion and diversity throughout the organization. Initiate the development of relationships with influential leaders to impact and strengthen the community. Is recognized as an inspirational community leader who navigates complex political and social circles with ease. Communicate to engage and inspire people within and outside the YMCA.
  • Assist the CEO in the process of strategic planning for the Association, centers and major departments of the Association. Work with Association executives, as well as center directors, to ensure the plan is executed effectively throughout the Association.
  • Assist CEO and senior leadership staff in leading the board development process at the Association level and guide staff in volunteer development for all Association committees, Center Advisory Boards, and all philanthropic activities.
  • Support and lead all development personnel within the Association with the execution of the Annual Support campaign that entails the establishment of a strong foundational focus for a major gifts program in each of the center and the Association.
  • Lead, with CEO assistance, the Capital Development program of the Association, working with key volunteer leadership, as well as identification of future volunteer leadership, training and communication, and data management.
  • Lead, with CEO assistance, the Planned Giving program for the Association and gives management and oversight to endowment direction and performance with executive staff support.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of communication and marketing strategies to position the YMCA as a “charity of choice” and “the place to belong” within the local community.
  • Serve as primary staff to the Marketing & Communications Committee and Financial Development Committee. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels.
  • Develop systems and manages resources needed to carry out the communication and marketing plans.
  • Develop internal and external communications policies and procedures for the association.
  • Develop external communication plans to insure members, participants, and the community understand the mission of the YMCA. 
  • Plan and oversee the association annual meeting, annual reports, newsletters, brochures and reports.
  • Develop annual operating goals, objectives and plan for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
  • Develop and manage relationships with media outlets and representatives to best position the YMCA as a community collaborator and a cause driven organization.
  • Provide direction to assigned staff in the Development and Marketing/Communications departments in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic and operating plan goals; prepares and manages associated budgets.
  • Represent the association as required by the President.
Educational Background: 
A Master’s degree in a related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Fifteen or more years of professional experience with fund raising including annual campaigns, major gifts, capital and planned giving and/or marketing, communications, or public relations. Preferred experience in a non-profit.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and/or Professional.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with top community leaders.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem–solve.
  • Experience in leading and developing staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated fund raising strategy development.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Knowledge of media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $200,000.00 - $230,000.00
