Regional Outdoor & Summer Camp Program Director

Strengthen our camping and outdoor adventure programs through year round day and overnight parent/child programs. Operate two year round regional camp sites with a focus on Belonging, Achievement and Relationships using a framework which promotes group and individual choice. Co-lead the on-going expansion of our association wide BOLD/GOLD teen programming and serve as the association product line lead in the area of high/low adventure programs and/or all range activity.  Overall the goal of this position is to grow participation, deliver quality programs, create a safe and positive atmosphere for all and position the Y as the provider of choice in the Houston community.

Supervisory Responsibility

Travel

  • Travel is 50% primarily locally within the YMCA of Greater Houston, State Parks, and Trinity, TX area during the operational hours.

Hours 

  • Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the center needs.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver a safe, fun and effective Y-Guides Program.
  • Develop and Operate two Regional Day Camp Operations (holiday, summer, retreat/conference).
  • Develop a year round BOLD/ GOLD (Boys & Girls Outdoor Leadership Development) Program.
  • Serve as the product line lead focused on the quality and compliance of association wide programs in Ropes and Ranges.
  • Participates as part of the Day Camp planning team to raise the overall quality of Houston Day Camps.
  • Acts as marketing ambassador for Houston camps at various marketing events throughout the year.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Support the center leadership through the matrix management model.
  • All other duties assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience at a leadership role within a resident and/or day camp setting.
  • CPR, First Aid and O2 certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Clear driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License.
