This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health and Wellness Director at the YMCA of Grays Harbor oversees the development and operations of the fitness department and programs, such as healthy living, and/or other programs and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Attends community events and meetings regarding health and wellness; a convener and leader in the community for a healthy and fit lifestyle including all aspects of a healthy spirit, mind and body.
- Ability to be the “face” of the YMCA for Health and Wellness and extend YMCA Health and Wellness services throughout our community.
- Directs and manages all fitness programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures. Develops programs and ensures program quality.
- Leads with empathy and uses excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills when working with both peers and community members.
- Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains/keeps current personal certification requirements.
- Design and implement the schedule of Group Exercise programming to best serve our membership demographic, making format or instructor changes when necessary. Actively recruit new, fresh group exercise instructors to continually infuse innovation into the schedule, while maintaining a steady growth in program services with high percentage of returning participants.
- Create, develop and maintain Personal Training systems and evidence based programs that meet or exceed revenue goals with quality, staff who regularly help members achieve their health & wellness goals in a noncompetitive, non-intimidating manner.
- Ensure that the group exercise schedule is accurate, and that classes are running as scheduled with limited interruption. The director will assist in arranging for coverage of instructors who cannot teach.
- Supervise the wellness floor staff, and ensure that they are delivering high-quality service by interacting with members, developing relationships, and helping people attain their goals.
- Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication.
- Manages the Health and Wellness, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign, and other volunteer committees as assigned.

Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
