Under the general direction of the Sr. Program Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Aquatics Director is responsible for all aspects of the aquatic programs/service.  As a member of the professional staff, the Aquatics Director is a constructive member of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members of the YMCA with the highest quality of programming and facilities available.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supervising the daily operation of the aquatic facilities to include but not limited to staffing, NC Healthcare standards, scheduling of facility (including pool rentals), swim lessons, and safety of the pool.
  • Working closely with the Sr. Program Director to plan and implement programs and service to members in the Aquatics Center.
  • Model the four core values of the YMCA: caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
  • Working as an effective member of the management team and working effectively with other program directors to achieve the highest level of quality in programs and services to our members.
  • Assisting with the Branch’s Annual Support Campaign by raising funds and achieve yearly sponsorship goal within department.
  • Developing and administrating the supervised department budgets.
  • Develop and train staff to conform to YMCA of USA standards.
  • Increase swim lessons participation yearly.
  • Hold quarterly CPR/First Aid trainings for branch staff.  This could also include trainings for public in lifeguarding.
Educational Background: 
Preferred four-year degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Fitness management, related field, or like experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of fiscal management and the budget process.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Instructor Training, Oxygen, Certified Pool Operator and USA Swimming Credentials.
  • Must be attentive to details, well organized, able to meet deadlines, take initiative to solve problems, be proactive in decision-making, and work with little supervision.
  • Strong background in aquatic programming.  Two years preferred.
  • Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
  • Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $29,000.00 - $35,000.00
