Studio Art Quilt Associates is seeking an experienced part-time development director.  SAQA’s development approach is donor-centered and relationship-based. The development director supports organizational leaders in developing significant relationships with donors, cultivates and stewards supporters, and guides the annual fundraising plan.

Areas of Responsibility: 

SAQA has approximately 700 donors. The SAQA development director position is a remote, part-time (20 hours a week) position which requires a computer and access to reliable high-speed internet connection. Travel to two donor events per year as required.

Salary and benefits are negotiable depending on experience. For tax reasons, this position requires residency in the United States.

Responsibilities

 

General

  • Develop a fundraising strategy in collaboration with the executive director, chair of the development committee, and development committee, set fundraising goals, and execute strategies to reach revenue goals
  • Guide and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
  • Research philanthropic trends in the nonprofit sector and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary

 

 

Major gifts

  • Educate, coach, and coordinate SAQA leadership in building positive relationships with donors
  • Steward a portfolio of approximately 40 major donors for both major gifts and planned gifts. Steward mid-level and monthly donors
  • Maintain an awareness of the organization’s priorities for fundraising as set by the board in order to coordinate major and planned gift solicitations for projects of specific interest to donors

 

Direct Mail

  • Design and implement two direct mail campaigns yearly
  • Create compelling cases for support, theme, and visual presentation
  • Develop supportive content for all communication channels
  • Coordinate board members in thanking campaign
  • Work collaboratively with graphic designer and printer

 

Communications

  • Develop fundraising content for the website, social media, and SAQA Journal.
  • Create two “Visionary” newsletters, oversee printing and mailing.

 

Special Events

  • Organize and attend at least two small major donor events annually
  • Participate in virtual Tea with Martha events five times per year

  • Self-direction, good organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal, communication, and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to articulate compelling messages for support both verbally and in writing
  • Sincere devotion to developing authentic positive relationships with donors and colleagues
  • Tact, diplomacy, respect for others, and a cultural sensitivity while creating a work environment that is productive, engaging, and supportive
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • minimum of 5 years of successful fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization, ideally within the arts and culture field
  • Proven ability to cultivate donor relationships and close large gifts
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Google drive
  • Familiarity with CRM and project management platforms
