Teach For America – Appalachia seeks an Associate, Development and Compliance, to provide behind-the-scenes support for Teach For America – Appalachia’s development work, as well as overall operational support ensuring corps member data and certification compliance. You will enable our regional fundraising efforts by building capacity, developing and maintaining systems, and providing administrative support. You will also ensure our team is able to best support corps members to achieving ambitious goals by developing and managing compliance tracking systems.

This individual must be extremely organized and detail-oriented, able to build strong and sustainable systems and possess a learning mindset. To be successful, they must be laser-focused on the importance of behind-the-scenes work to achieving outcomes and moving the needle toward the regional vision.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Internal Systems for Development (60%)

  • Develop, implement and maintain a set of strong development systems to maximize the efficiency and outcomes of our development work, including but not limited to: systems for updating engagement records, payment processing, and systems for prospecting, qualifying, cultivating and stewarding donors
  • Identify, synthesize and analyze data to assess our development progress-to-goal; then, collaborate with team members to strategize and implement key actions to push continued progress
  • Craft communication designed to cultivate and steward new and current donors, including but not limited to: meeting briefs, emails, thank you notes, etc.
  • Create, improve and maintain the operational systems required to manage a high volume of donor cultivation, stewardship and research (i.e., managing tracking systems and the integrity of our donor database; gift operations: tracking gifts, cash collection, school district invoicing, acknowledgements; maintaining hard and soft copy files, etc.)
  • Collaborate on grant proposals, reports, and other written documents as needed to support the vision, strategy, and operations of the program. Provide written and/or editorial support.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to execute the regional strategic and operating plans, ensuring the region maximizes development opportunities, meets its goals and significantly grows funding while building long-term sustainability

Corps Member Certification and Compliance Tracking (30%)

  • Monitor corps member data compliance and support the Director, Teacher Leadership Development, in identifying needs and opportunities for improved effectiveness
  • Effectively influence and motivate corps members to complete the responsibilities and tasks necessary for becoming fully licensed educators, which may require differentiated strategies
  • Ensure corps members submit data requests and other certification-related tasks on time and manage communication and trouble-shooting toward this goal
  • Manage and refine data/information systems to track certification, ensuring the systems are as maximally effective and efficient as possible, drawing upon best practices across regions
  • Respond to information and data requests from other internal teams and corps members
  • Prepare Title II report and support with audits as needed

Be a Steward of our Regional Team and our Movement (10%)

  • Select incoming corps members to join our movement
  • Support regional efforts to ensure admitted corps members accept their offers
  • Help plan and participate in all-region meetings and events throughout the course of the year
  • Interface with other Teach For America teams that contribute to our broader regional and national efforts
  • Participate in learning opportunities to improve your expertise and knowledge as a Teach For America staff member
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years’ work experience
  • Experience with operations and logistics work preferred

Work Demands

  • Willingness to work occasional weekend or evening work hours required
  • Occasional in-state travel required
