Manager, Pre-Service and AmeriCorps

The Manager, Pre-Service and AmeriCorps will: (1) oversee and manage our regional AmeriCorps work streams, (2) oversee institute operations for regional summer institute, and (3) manage our regional selection and matriculation work streams.

A true relationship builder, you are motivated by supporting others, as individuals and as a collective, and will apply insights and creativity to developing strategic approaches to deepening alumni, donor, prospect and community relationships that lead to strong outcomes and results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

AmeriCorps (40%)
Overall management of Americorps

  • ensure corps members are enrolled, and all documentation is complete
  • exit corps members timely as needed
  • attend state commission meetings and engage in cultivation of local AmeriCorps partners; respond to commission requests (state and federal)
  • write grant proposal and follow-up reports for AmeriCorps, with the support of regional and national staff
  • manage part-time staff member

Institute Operations (25%)
School Year:

  • Finalize contracts for food, transportation, and lodging
  • Bring in supplies and materials for Institute
  • Support head of Institute with operations and logistics planning for events (opening/closing)
  • Hire, train and provide ongoing support to operations coordinators and school operations manager

Summer:

  • Full time work at regional Institute over the summer to oversee food, transportation, lodging, supplies, signage, support event operations
  • Manage 3 operations coordinators (OCs) to assist with: (1) on-site residential issues including lock-outs and food issues; (2) coordinating transportation (buses, cars); (3) ensuring school sites have supplies; (4) creating signage and support event operations
  • Manage school operations manager (SOM)

Selection and Matriculation (20%)

  • Manage regional selection commitments
  • Liaison with national team, oversee team commitments, and ensure new team members have buddies
  • Create opportunities for team sharing and learning cross-team
  • Manage and oversee matriculation process; coordinate meetings for centralized matriculation team; participate on centralized matriculation team, which collectively works to::
    • update/develop as needed regional resources for preferencing and assignment
    • create strategy for differentiated outreach and connection with callers (staff, CM/A, board, others); train and support callers
    • manage portfolio of confirmed applicants, outreach and communication with applicants; connect with other callers
    • create strategy for ongoing engagement and inspiration touchpoints with confirmed applicants; track retention

All Staff Contributions (15%)

  • Participation in team meetings and events (all staff & functional teams)
  • Participation in all staff events (selection or staff culture)
  • Participation in community organization and regional team engagements as defined in FY20 Staff Engagement Expectations
Educational Background: 
Holds, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 to 7 years of experience working in operations, logistics, and/or managing systems
  • Experience with Teach For America preferred
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment preferred
  • Deep ties or networks in Hawai'i preferred

Work Demands

  • Expectation that this staff member lives in Hawai'i and on Oahu during regional summer institute
  • Be able to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel independently to multiple locations throughout Hawai'i for work
