The Seed Crew Member will perform various management activities on Dunn Ranch and Pawnee Prairie in northwest Missouri.
Primary responsibilities will involve working on a two-person seed crew to harvest and clean native seeds. Crew members may also work to remove or treat invasive vegetation through mechanical means or through spraying herbicides. This position requires irregular hours and extensive outdoor physical labor sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
The Seed Crew Member participates in preserve operations, maintenance, and management. This may include one or more of the following functions:
- Harvest and clean native seeds mechanically and by hand
- Assist with establishment and maintenance of native plant nursery beds
- Spray herbicides to treat invasive vegetation
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Maintain preserve areas frequented by the visiting public
- Other management duties as assigned
- Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (hand sprayer, tractor, manual transmission vehicles, etc.)
- Ability to recognize plant species
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be over age 21 to operate a TNC vehicle
- Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather
