The mission of Junior Achievement is to empower young people to own their economic success through financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship education in K-12 schools throughout our region. Junior Achievement of Southwest New England serves seven Connecticut counties (excluding only Fairfield County). During the 2018-19 school year, JA of Southwest New England served roughly 47,000 students, thanks to the efforts of 3,000 business/community volunteers. JA of Southwest New England, based in Hartford, CT (satellite office in New Haven), has been recognized by JA USA for three consecutive years for financial stability, student growth, and overall management efficiency.
Reporting to the President and CEO (CEO), the Development Manager (DM) assists in the development of stewardship programs and cultivates partnerships with both current and prospective donor bases in the Hartford and New Haven Regions. The DM works in coordination with the CEO to identify, cultivate and manage new and existing individual, foundation and corporate donors to fully optimize development opportunities. The DM works in partnership with Development and Event staff to ensure that all Development and Grant objectives are met and exceeded in alignment with the overall JA Strategic Plan.
- Manage portfolio of Mid-level Individual and Corporate Donors
- Manage all aspects of the New Haven Partners and Achievement Breakfast (PIA) and assist where required with the Hartford PIA
- Work in partnership with activities of the Grants Coordinator to continually grow the volume and monetary impact of the Grants program
- Assist with New Haven Board activities where required in conjunction with the CEO
- Meet and exceed financial goals and build awareness for JA’s mission and Strategic Plan
- Develop and implement plans to grow specialty program and classroom sponsorship
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with new individual, corporate, and private foundation leaders
- Implement sustainable growth plan for corporate support base
- Work closely with the program staff to identify new sources of financial and volunteer support and new opportunities for engaging prospects
- Develop strategies and implement processes to expand individual giving base including: major gifts, planned giving, annual campaign, fundraising events
- Expand revenue base both within and outside of Hartford County
- 3-5 years’ experience in Non-Profit development field with proven fundraising and special events experience
- Competitive and results-driven with the ability to motivate others to solicit and secure gifts
- Strong relationship management and team building skills with the ability to work with a variety of constituents, including event sponsors, corporate leaders, and individuals
- Excellent organization, presentation, and communication skills
- Grant-writing experience a plus
- Proven experience, passion and commitment to providing superior customer service
- Ability to work as a self-starter in a team environment, inspiring others
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and experience with fundraising databases (i.e. Raiser’s Edge, BCRM, QGiv, and First Giving)
