The Aquatics Director is responsible for all aspects of the Mystic branch aquatics programming. Specific duties include a strong emphasis on lifeguarding, safety, aquatic program development and marketing of aquatics programs. The Aquatic Director is responsible for fiscal management, financial development, facility management, hiring, training and supervision of staff. The Program Director will also provide leadership to the swim team program at the Mystic Branch YMCA. The Aquatics Director will have oversight and direct management of all waterfront activities at our Mystic summer day camp.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop the annual operating objectives and plans. Monitor the achievement of these objectives and exercise appropriate action to ensure achievement of the objectives.
- Prepare the annual income and expense budget for the Aquatics Department and assigned area(s) of responsibility. Administer the budget and exercise necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all staff related to program responsibilities. Monitor and update all required staff certifications.
- Assist in volunteer opportunities as assigned.
- Develop, produce and dissemiate appropriate program information in order to promote aquatic programs to the public and to keep members current.
- Represent the Branch at various meetings related to the Aquatics position.
- Maintain and organize pool rental inforamtion.
- Maintain physical upkeep of the pool deck and vacuuming of the pool.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree with at least 3 years of experience in the aquatics field and in supervision or 7 years experience with increasing responsibilities.
Skills/Experience:
- Excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Must have thorough knowledge of full range of instructional and competitive aquatics.
- This position requires extensive skills in recruiting, training and direction of volunteer leaders and employees.
- The Aquatics Director must possess skills in program development and fiscal management.
- This position will function as a member of the total staff team in developing community relations and long-range planning.
- Effective human relations skills are critical to success in this position.
