Seeking motivated, energetic and innovated CHANGEMAKER that that will develop, quality programs that strengthen our community through youth.

Under the supervision of the Center Executive and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA, the Multi-Center Youth Development Director is responsible for the administration of the licensed school age and summer camp programs within the Mathews and Middlesex Family YMCAs and local communities. Main program areas include Summer Camp, School Age child care and Child Watch areas. This position supervises numerous part-time and seasonal youth department employees and volunteers to ensure successful programming. The Multi-Center Youth Development Director will provide leadership in developing and maintaining safe, quality programs that support the goals of Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Maintain relationships with members, program participants and partner agencies through verbal and written communications and to encourage the growth of membership participation.
  • Promotes and participates in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Giving Campaigns through recruitment and leadership of a team of volunteers.

Program Development

  • Organize, plan, promote, and schedule programs and annual events to include but not limited to Camp Parent’s Night, open houses, PTA nights. 
  • Plan and implement special events including but not limited to Kids/Parent’s Night Out and seasonal festivals to assist in center retention efforts. 
  • Plan and implement snow, holiday and spring break programs.
  • Review and evaluate all programs to determine participant needs and possible areas of improvement or growth.
  • Surveys communities’ needs on an ongoing basis to result in the development of new and innovative programs to meet Center and Association goals.
  • Works closely with counties’ Department of Social Services and school officials to expand the programs’ reach in the community.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery. This includes, but is not limited to school principals, officials, and church personnel.

Program Administration

  • Work with center leadership staff to increase performance in KPI-identified areas.
  • Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
  • Manage weekly payments by the parents of the school-age and day camp participants.
  • Responsible for the purchase, care, maintenance, and storage of program supplies and equipment in accordance with the operating budget.
  • Maintain proper documentation to meet or exceed state licensing requirements and Association Quality Standards.

Team Leadership

  • Hires, develops motivates and retains a committed staff team passionate about the YMCA’s mission and service to members.
  • Holds regular one-on-one meetings with all staff members to learn about, gauge satisfaction, and provide career development coaching/training.
  • Holds regular department staff meetings to train, coach, role-play, and provide updates on center and association-initiatives. 
  • Provides leadership to the branch by participating in branch meetings and events, association leadership teams and task forces as assigned to increase communication, awareness and quality in the organization
  • Completes all job-related, supervisory, and other trainings as required.
  • Ensures all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow branch Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). 
  • Actively participates in center leadership activities (to include Supervisor on Duty and occasional special events).
  • Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the youth development department and center operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience required; core competency and course work required per the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Standards.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience, YMCA experience preferred.
  • Medication Administration Training Certified attained within first 60 days of employment.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License (Class C) with Passenger Endorsement obtained within the first year of employment. 
  • Certification in the YMCA of the USA Child Care training series preferred.
  • Background must include strong skills in parent relations, staff development, curriculum/program development and child development. 
  • Proof of a negative TB test within the last 2 years.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2.
  • Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $36,207.00 - $42,000.00
