Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director of the Sussex County YMCA, a branch of the Metro YMCA of the Oranges, the Youth and Family Engagement Director is responsible for the overall operation, development and implementation of strategies and programs that acquire family members and that engage youth, adults and families in the Sports & Recreation, Teen/Family and Camp departments in a safe environment that complies with YMCA best practices. The position is responsible for staff and budget management, parent communications, establishing procedures, and ensuring all programs reflect the YMCA's commitment to child safety.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as assigned; review and evaluate staff performance; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals – all in accordance with Branch and Association guidelines.
  • Develop, implement and manage the operating plan to promote program and grow participation within local school district (s) or at offsite locations ensuring a safe, educational, social and nurturing environment.
  • Provides leadership and exercise sound judgment in resolving issues with parents, school teachers and administrators. Consults with Associate Executive/Branch Executive/HR when necessary.
  • Oversees and manages the licensing requirements assuring compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Conduct regular site observations, assuring program quality and safety standards are met. Provide timely written reports to supervisor to include current state, identification of issues and trends. Analyze trends based on surveys of parent, student, principal, and staff feedback.
  • Process payroll and monitor staff hours and schedules according to the YMCA’s procedures.
  • Develop and monitor program budget(s) to meet fiscal objectives in accordance with the YMCA’s procedures.
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Adhere to Licensing requirements.
  • Expand youth, adult and family programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Perform any additional duties that may enhance the experience for participants while influencing growth and quality of the programs within the established guidelines of the YMCA. Assist in Marketing and distribution of information as needed.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.  This includes but is not limited to: securing and scheduling athletic fields, schools and other facilities, gymnasium and recruiting local coaches to partner in programming. 
  • Ensure a high level of member and participant satisfaction in programs.
  • Attend all scheduled staff and program meetings. Attend and participate association-wide Quality Team meetings as requested.
  • Acquire and onboard new family members and actively engage with existing family members in order to assist them with meeting their needs as family members.
  • Develop and implement new and innovative family programs, workshops, events etc. in response to member needs.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Adult Sports Leagues program including promotion and registration, securing facilities or fields for play, maintaining score sheets, providing scores to local papers, and recognition of league winners.
  • Schedule and promote Youth Sports Classes and Clinics based at the Branch. Develop new and innovative programs that promote retention and continued involvement in YMCA programs.
  • Coordinate all aspects of Youth Basketball League including program promotion and registration, assigning players to teams, scheduling team practices and games, distributing sport rules and program guidelines, ordering and distributing team t-shirts, scheduling team pictures, and recruitment and recognition of team sponsors.
  • Develop and implement Teen sports, recreation and enrichment programming. 
  • Manage operation of, and introduce more effective programs to, the Middle School Initiative (MSI).
  • Direct and supervise all facets of the Branch Summer Camp program. Direct and supervise daily operations of White Pines Day Camp. This includes but is not limited to program activities, early bird marketing, camp reunion/open houses, training camp staff, and parent tours and orientations before camp begins.
  • Ensure a high quality and safe summer camp program that includes responding to parental concerns and providing a positive environment for campers and staff.
  • Assist and participate in planning special events as requested i.e. Healthy Kids Day, Sussex County Golf Outing, etc.
  • Ensure all assigned strategic objectives are met.

 OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participate in workshops, trainings and seminars that will enhance professional growth.
  • Participate and become an active storyteller during Annual Campaign.
  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
  • Perform such other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Child Development, Sports Management, Recreation, or Physical Education or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three years of commensurate experience in a supervisory/management position.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Sports and Recreation, working with children in a group setting, and Summer Camp Programs.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management; ability to understand financial reports including budgetary guidelines and expenditures.
  • Experience adhering to Licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and outlook.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem-solving and independent judgment and making decisions within the guidelines of the YMCA.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications and Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Must have flexible work schedule.
  • Transportation and valid NJ driver’s license is required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $51,061.00 - $57,000.00
