Under the direction of the Aquatic’s Director, the Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for the management and operation of the Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team.  S/he follows and enforces safety standards and other policies and procedures.  S/he performs other duties as assigned.    All coaching staff maintains safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants while challenging them with new skills to develop them into a better swimmer overall.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with assistant coaches to develop and administer appropriate plans for all swimmers in the HHST Swim Team.
  • Plan, prepare and conduct team practices.
  • Actively participate in and work with the Heartland Area, River Country, and Ozark swim leagues in order to assure team participation all available swim meets, invitational and championships. 
  • Plan meet lineups, and provide on deck coaching at all age group meets.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and training.
  • Work with assistant coaches to ensure continuity in athlete development.
  • Evaluate athletes periodically and make recommendations for progression through the program.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Perform various administrative duties as assigned by the Executive Director, including communication with parents via email, phone and team website.
  • Coordinate parent volunteer responsibilities in the areas of; home and away swim meets (timers/recorders, officials, score keepers, and runners), swim team fundraising, and working with any parent volunteer leaders.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2-year experience as a swim instructor or swim coach.
  • Proven track record of devloping swimmers in a competitive arena.
  • Knowledgeable in “Meet Manager” software for swim meet scoring.
  • College degree in Recreational or Aquatics Management or related field preferred.

Required Certifications

  • W.S.I and/or YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, Blood borne Pathogens Instructor Certification
  • YMCA Progressive Swim Certifications preferred
  • Certified Lifeguard, Principles of Aquatic Leadership, Swim Instructor certified preferred
  • USA swimming coaches certification
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $31,500.00 - $35,000.00
