The Executive Director has primary responsibility for overall leadership of the Hammond YMCA including community engagement, executing on the strategic/operational plan, budget, and oversight of all membership, programs and services.

This includes responsibility for overall center operations, fiscal management, community engagement, fundraising, strategic planning, program launches and new program development, membership, team leadership, and continuous improvement.

The Hammond Family YMCA serves all backgrounds and strives to be an inclusive community gathering place. Hammond Y has 6,800 members, which is expected to double with the completion of the expansion. The Hammond YMCA is looking for an adaptable leader with the ability to sustain and build relationships, assist in the planning and construction of an expanded facility and lead a culture committed to integrating and retaining what will be a rapidly growing membership and donor base.

The Executive Director will direct the operations of the Hammond Family YMCA which is a vibrant part of Hammond, IN and surrounding communities. Essential Functions

  • Coordinates the development of the branch board and committees.  Directs the volunteer activities (policy and program) of the branch.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, development and supervision of staff.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  • Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Crossroads YMCA mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Directs branch marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  • Serves as a member of Y management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 to 5 years experience in YMCA or a similar non profit organization
  • Staff supervisory experience is important. Should possess extensive management experience and be competent in membership and program development, staff selection and development, and facility operations. 
  • A successful background in financial development (annual campaign), recruitment and development of volunteer leadership, community involvement and strategic planning is required. 
  • Proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
  • Must be able to relate well to public; YMCA members and feel comfortable making presentations to groups.
  • The incumbent must have a thorough understanding regarding the day to day management of facilities.
  • Should possess skills in managing multiple priorities, communications and member relations, motivating staff and volunteers, supervision, staff selection, training, and evaluation.  
  • Must have the ability to develop positive relationships with YMCA members, program participants, school district, city and the community. 
  • Obtain and maintain all required trainings for this position. 
  • Be a team player with a commitment to excellence.  
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits: Crossroads YMCA offers a comprehensive Benefits Plan: Health, Dental, Vision, Long & Short Term Disability, Retirement 8% paid by the YMCA upon meeting eligibility requirements, Paid Time Off (PTO).

Salary: Pay will commensurate with experience, a minimum of $55,000 per year.
