This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Hammond Branch of the Crossroads YMCA has served the community for 50 years. We are committed to serving our members and delivering great programs. Crossroads YMCA is a growing YMCA Association with 4 branches located in Lake County, Indiana. There is easy access to Chicago and Michigan with many ammenities for residents. Lake County is located just south of Lake Michigan which is also a big draw to this region. You will love the location!

The Director will develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs. The position reports to the Branch Executive.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Conducts and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions including procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  •  Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 1 - 2 years related experience preferred. Example, as Aquatics Coordinator or supervisor.
  • Minimum age 21 preferred.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Rescuer, and Lifeguard certifications
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn other software programs.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • 12.Possess strong leadership qualities and work as a team member.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $28,000.00 - $34,000.00
