Serves as a member of the President/CEO’s executive leadership team,providing strategic leadership to attract, develop and retain the best talent available and to position the YMCA as an “employer of choice.” Oversees the development and implementation of talent management/ human resources policies, plans and services, including recruitment, selection, legal compliance, employee benefits, compensation, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, employment practices and procedures, employee communications and events.
Directly supervises employees in the human resource and training department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the association's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; developing, coaching, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
- Participates in strategic planning for the organization. Provides leadership and consulting support to executives and management on matters of reinforcing culture, setting goals, developing policy, and implementing strategic objectives.
- Oversees talent management, including training, staff training and leadership development, retention, recognition, employee communication and career development. Assesses and evaluates training and staff development needs, and develops programs to meet needs.
- Develops and maintains performance management and appraisal programs. Provides assistance to employees and supervisors with questions and workplace problems.
- Oversees compensation and benefit programs, including job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments. Oversees benefit plan communication, enrollment and administration. Assesses the competitiveness of human resources programs and practices against the relevant markets and makes recommendations for improvements
- and changes.
- Manages workers compensation and unemployment claims. This includes responding to claims, filing appleals, overseeing invoicing and managing third party administrator agreements.
- Remains current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program
- of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel.
- Oversees HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization. Ensures timely and accurate submission
- of data requested by the EEOC, YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, etc.
- Manages workers compensation and unemployment claims and costs by gathering & recording documentation, investigating and responding to claims. Provides information to third party administrators and coaching to staff in preparation for hearings.
- Files EEO-1, OSHA 300, and National Y reports annually; maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to government and association regulations.
- Handles employee relations counseling and exit interviewing.
- Leads employee recognition efforts to support cause-driven culture.
- Administers compensation program; monitors association job descriptions and performance evaluation system, and revises each as necessary.
- Explains benefit plans and assists with benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment.
- Current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments and applicable laws regarding human resources.
- Knowledge and professional experience in planning and policy, talent management, selection, compensation, benefits, training and staff development, employee relations, and performance management.
- Proficiency in business and human resources related computer applications, which may include talent management systems, time and attendance systems, etc.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
- YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred; if not certified, should obtain certification within 2 years.
Salary: $62,700.00 - $72,400.00
