The Aquatics Manager assists the Aquatics Director in providing for the successful operation of the Aquatics Department. They serve as the aquatic expert during swim lessons, provide leadership and development of lifeguard staff, and ensure high-quality aquatic training. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assists the Aquatic Director with the general operation and safety concerns of the department.
  • Supervises and guides all aquatic staff in the duties outline in their job description.
  • Is accountable for the staffing and coverage of all aquatic staff.
  • Leads the YMCA Swim Lesson v6 rollout for staff and participants.
  • Provides/coordinates trainings in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Oxygen Administration for staff/members.
  • Manages the private swim lesson program.
  • Assists in professional development of all aquatics staff.
  • Records, reports and ensures the accuracy of all aquatic records.
  • Maintains all instructional equipment, including proper usage and storage of class materials.
  • Ensure classes are conducted in accordance with the GMVY Swim Lesson v6 Program.
  • Organize class rosters as needed.
  • Ensure that all instructors have the equipment and curriculum tools and resources they need before each class.
  • Ensure that all students are enrolled in a stage appropriate to their ability.
  • Serve as liaison between instructors and parents as needed.
  • Assist with any discipline issues or challenging situations.
  • Teach or offer hands-on assistance with classes when needed.
  • Perform instructor evaluations and coach instructors based on those evaluations.
  • Call students who miss multiple classes.
  • Ensure instructors use curriculum tools effectively, including filling out progress trackers and handing out welcome letters, mid-session reports and certificates of achievement.
  • Ability to teach various levels of lessons at any time if needed.
  • Know and understand emergency procedures; be prepared to act on them if necessary.
  • Maintains current certifications at all times.
  • Schedules and attends all required trainings, in-service meetings, and branch meetings as required.
  • Provides excellent member experiences to all participants and members through classes and events.
  • Supports all branch and association-wide membership retention and engagement initiatives.
  • Actively supports membership sales initiatives.
  • Supports and promotes annual campaigns efforts within branch and across association.
  • Organizes special events for participants and families.
  • Covers all schedules shifts and/or finds substitute coverage for 100% of scheduled shifts.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have current BLS, First Aid and Oxygen certifications.
  • YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Y-Basic Swim Lessons v6 certification prefered.
  • Knowledge of computer software and ability to print class roster, as well as understanding on how to complete necessary reports.
  • Must have experience in water safety.
  • Must have knowledge of teaching basic swimming strokes to all levels, and have the ability to demonstrate each skill effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and participants is essential.
  • Must promote the YMCA mission and apply core values, including customer service, meeting quality standards for service, and a maintaining safe environment for the enjoyment of all.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of 
  • the community.
  • Physical ability to respond to children quickly in emergency: regular kneeling, bending, or sitting.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks, work heavily with families and children.

Required Certifications

  • Must have current BLS, First Aid and Oxygen certifications.
  • YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Y-Basic Swim Lessons v6 certification prefered. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $26,000.00 - $30,000.00
