The Senior Program Director is responsible for implementing the mission, vision and values of the YMCA within the community in accordance with the association Strategic Plan. They will oversee the day-to-day operations of the YMCA. This involves all aspects of facility management, building an outstanding staff, a strong member participation, and strong program portfolio, resulting in establishing the YMCA as an important part of local community development. The Senior Program Director is responsible for implementing the branch operating plan and preparing and monitoring the annual budget.  They will assist the District Executive Director in developing an engaged Board of Managers and growing the Annual Campaign.

  • Positively represent the YMCA in accordance with the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and maintain relationships with professional and community organizations and agencies in the branch service area.
  • Efficient day to day operations of the branch including all administrative functions, risk management/compliance plans and facility upkeep.
  • Implement and continually evaluate all operational components of the YMCA’s Real-Time Strategic Plan as relates to the Hamden/North Haven Y.
  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to Hamden/North Haven Y staff team. This includes ongoing coaching to ensure achievement of goals.
  • Develop and implement programs in the areas of membership, health & wellness, School Age Child Care (SACC), aquatics, youth sports, teens and tweens,volunteers, community involvement, rentals, and other revenue generating programs.
  • Develop and implement Membership and Health & Wellness recruitment and retention plans leading to a growing number of individuals served.
  • Ensure that the facility is welcoming, bright, clean and well maintained.
  • Develop and implement short and long term capital improvement plans.
  • Cultivate and foster a positive image of the Hamden/North Haven Y in the community.
  • Leads community awareness campaigns along with maintaining promotions for programs with an ongoing presence in the media.
  • Build and improve the staff team in accordance with the strategic and operating plan.
  • Achievement of a balanced budget inclusive of capital reserves, depreciation, and association support.
  • Assist the District Executive Director with strategic development of an engaged board of managers to ensure responsiveness to community needs and commensurate financial support.
  • Provide leadership to the staff team to ensure the development and implementation of operational and financial plans, with a special emphasis on program and volunteer growth. 
  • Participate in activities, workshops, conferences, etc., that will enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.  Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Prepare for and implement branch special events such as, but not limited to, YMCA Healthy Kids Day program, Membership Open Houses, and MOSSA group exercise launch parties.
  • All other duties assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree - required
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification - preferred. YMCA Team Leader - Required.
  • Three years of experience in which increased responsibilities were earned. (YMCA or non-profit leadership experience preferred)
  • Proven success in building programs and membership.
  • Experience in Health & Wellness preferred.
  • Must have proficient proven skills and successful experience in meeting targets related to program management and development.
  • Must have experience recruiting, training, supervising, and developing full-time, supervisory staff, part-time staff, and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in active listening skills: patience; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and to do so with a diverse population in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to prepare written proposals for funding, promotional pieces for a variety of audiences/media, and presentations for community groups as well as prepare and present training curriculum for staff.
  • This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel as well as web browsers.
  • Experience managing successful budgets.
  • Experience managing building operations.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $51,000.00 - $56,000.00
