Oversees the development and operations of Childcare, Sports, Health and Wellness, Aquatics, Membership and Active Older Adult programs in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Directors, along with the mission and goals of the YMCA. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff. Provides liaison support to committee(s) and advisory board(s). This position will play a key role in community and member relationships.
Areas of Responsibility:
Childcare Director
- Plan, develop, supervise, and implement the program activities at the site.
- Manage curriculum planning for the site.
- Develop and distribute parent communications.
- Assist with the promotion of the Branch and school-age childcare programs to the community.
- Make ongoing systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Obtain and update all registrations, contracts, release forms, and emergency forms that pertain to administration of the school-age child program at the site.
- Maintain required program records such as attendance, daily schedules, and rosters.
- Manage site budget.
- May hire and supervise staff.
- Maintain OKDHS child care services licensing requirements for after-school program
Program Director
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans for Childcare, Sports, Active Older Adults, Health and Wellness, and Aquatics programs with a goal of promoting program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Trains and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops and coordinates all necessary marketing and promotion for related programs and services. This may include but not be limited to, timely and frequent news releases, school distributions, paid advertising and the design of brochures, program guides and flyers.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Maintains accurate and up to date records, files, and billing/collection procedures and provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
- Maintains YMCA webpage and other forms of social media.
- Leads assigned aspects of the Annual Support Campaign.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, exercise science, or related field
Skills/Experience:
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law for Childcare Director within 6 months of being hired
- One to two years related experience preferred, especially working with children in a developmental setting
- Minimum age of 21
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program and childcare activities
- Previous experience with diverse populations
