This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Youth Programs intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing while developing, organizing and implementing high quality YMCA youth program(s). Under the direction of the Grundy Family YMCA Branch Director, the Youth Programs Director is responsible for the development and implementation of all youth programs including Before & After School Care, Summer Day Camp, youth sports programs and other non-physical youth activities. The Director provides leadership and management of facilities used, staff and volunteer development, and collaborations with community agencies in meeting the needs of YMCA members and youth program participants.
- Recruit, hire and train a team of highly skilled staff and volunteers that appropriately relate to all members and the general public. Including effective delegation of duties for the Before and After School Care and Summer Day Camp Coordinator.
- Retain and evaluate staff in youth program areas. Responsible to fill in for staff as needed and teach programs to ensure programs are carried out. Creates and maintains high morale of the employed staff in childcare and sports programming.
- Schedule, plan and conduct staff meetings on a regular basis, to enhance communication, provide necessary training, and provide other staff the opportunity to be involved in program development, creative problemsolving, and to provide their input to successful program operation.
- Conduct periodic checks of the program site to assure that DHS licensing standards are being maintained.
- Actively works with other program staff in the creation and administration of new program material; evaluates all programs on a periodic basis to ensure adequate growth, relevance, safety, and quality of delivery.
- Responsible for the day to day operations of childcare programs and youth sports. Specifically, preparing and maintaining all equipment and supplies necessary to carry out programs. Ensures the childcare facility is neat, orderly, and free from all safety impediments.
- Is responsible for establishing a reports procedure for incidents/accidents that occur within the facility, ensuring all necessary written reports are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
- Keeps records essential for control, evaluation and reporting to the Programs Committee, the Board of Directors, and the CEO. Prepares monthly and annual reports.
- Maintains monthly work schedules, bi-weekly time sheets and all required childcare forms, completing and submitting monthly forms to appropriate offices.
- Participate in YMCA fundraising and financial development activities such as; grant writing, implementation and reporting, the Annual Fundraising Campaign and Family Time events and activities. The Y: We’re for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Develop annual and long-range goals and objectives for the all YMCA youth development programs, based on the YMCA mission, strategic long range plan, evaluation feedback, and community needs; and prepare necessary work plans.
- Prepares annual budget for program functions in consultation with the Branch Director. Administers the approved budget and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
- Promotes membership enrollment and program participation; assures careful assimilation of new members and program participants into the youth programs.
- Develop, teach, and seek out professional growth opportunities for YMCA youth development staff.
- Monthly clerical work including billing statements, membership renewal notices and managing past due accounts.
- Represents the YMCA and maintains its relationship with relevant organizations in the community, such as Child Care Resource and Referral.
- Must exemplify appropriate behavior and act as a role model for participants showing the core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Works as a Leadership Staff team member to help cooperatively lead the organization. Weekly Leadership Staff
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Branch Director, to assure excellent operation of the YMCA.
- Minimum of two years working in child care or youth sports programming.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
- of the community.
- Understanding of basic accounting concepts and applications including cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
