The First Aid Camp Coordinator manages all first aid-related materials and processes at Audubon Greenwich's Summer Nature Day Camp, an 8-week camp that runs from the last week of June through the middle of August and serves approximately 250 children from K-9th grade. S/he is responsible for responding to all first aid/CPR incidences and emergencies that take place during the Audubon Greenwich Summer Camp hours (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM - June 25 – August 10, and 3:30 PM - 9:30 PM – August 13 - 15). In addition, The Coordinator will be on call during the camp overnight from 3 PM Thurs. Aug. 16 to 9:30 AM Fri. Aug. 17.

The First Aid Camp Coordinator position supports the camp staff through ensuring that all first aid policies, supplies and standard practices are in optimal working order and in compliance with relevant State of Connecticut regulations. S/he also assists the Camp Director in the collection and organization of all camper paperwork and registration forms and works in partnership with our two year-round Education Specialists, the Public Programs Manager, and our Operations Manager. Additionally, the Coordinator supports the Camp Director by making contact with camper families when necessary and completing supervisory and support tasks including but not limited to, observing staff for the purpose of providing constructive feedback, being present in cases of camper or staff disciplinary conversations, lead games, hikes or other activities as needed. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Organize the First Aid and CPR supplies and First Aid packs
  • Update the emergency contact information, and the summer camp staff roster
  • Assist with the preparations of the summer camp staff training
  • Inform the camp staff regarding all camper allergies and medications in their prospective camp groups
  • Support summer camp staff as needed
  • Enter summer camper health information into the camp roster spreadsheets
  • Maintain the outstanding paperwork log and contact parents to remind them about their outstanding paperwork
  • Coordinate with the camp director a summer camp appreciation/awards ceremony for the C.I.T.’s and the camp staff
  • Take photographs of camp activities whenever possible
  • Attend weekly summer camp staff meetings
  • Respond to all First Aid and CPR Emergencies
  • Contact parents when needed i.e.: if a camper is late, forgotten their lunch, or needs to go home, etc.
  • Enter all first aid injuries into the health log
  • Drop-off accident report log at camp physician’s office each week to be signed off on
  • Monitor first aid supplies and alert the camp director when supplies are getting low
  • Collect all camp medications at the end of each day and store them in the designated locked cabinet
  • Perform all first aid director duties as outlined by the CT Youth Camp Policy
Skills/Experience: 
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy, particularly word-processing, e-mail, and database functions
  • Minimum of two years working in or leading summer camp or similar environmental education or outdoor education programs
  • Able to interact well with children, teens and adults, especially parents
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in local natural history and the outdoor environment
  • Willing to work outdoors in any weather as necessary
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required (or availability to attend a training before June 25th)
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
