The YMCA of Greenville is currently looking for an individual who wants to make a valuable contribution and help transform the lives of others. Specifically, in the role of our Youth in Government (YIG) Programs and Operations Director.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development,healthy living and social responsibility. Specifically, the SC YMCA Youth in Government (YIG) Programs and Operations Director manages all operational and logistical aspects of South Carolina YMCA Youth in Government and Teen Achievers programs. This position provides leadership at all Youth in Government programs, events, and trainings, and manages on-site events and regular programming at Teen Achievers partner schools.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and manages all registrations and communications with schools and students, including Google Docs and Google Drive shared school spreadsheets.
  • Manages and negotiates hotel contracts.
  • Manages production of billbooks, resolution books and other conference printing, including communication with schools and students to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Communicates with schools and hotels to manage rooming lists, and to place schools in hotels ensuring most efficient utilization of space.
  • Manages and negotiates all space rental for all conferences.
  • Serves as lead for communicating with Statehouse staff to ensure availability of committee rooms. Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with all Statehouse employees to ensure long-term partnerships and support.
  • Creates all auxiliary training materials and oversees publications, or manages in-house printing.
  • Manages all conference logistics, including meals and in-conference transportation.
  • Works with Teen Achievers consultant to print and distribute all Teen Achievers curriculum materials to volunteers at three Teen Achievers partner schools.
  • Works with Director of Development and Recruiting to maintain strong relationships with Youth in Government and Model UN advisors. Provides timely – 24-hour – responses to all questions.
  • Maintains Model UN database of countries, and works with schools during selection process.
  • Works with YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Conference Center to manage logistics of Middle School Model UN.
  • Oversees printing and publication for all Model UN materials.
  • Works with Director of Development & Recruiting and Executive Director to plan YCorps.
  • Responsible for YCorps logistics, including bus contracts, lodging partners, and service projects.
  • With Executive Director and Director of Development and Recruiting, serves as public face of Youth in Government and Teen Achievers programs.
  • Maintains strong communications and relationships with Youth in Government advisors and Teen Achievers volunteers.
  • Recruits Resource Staff volunteers for Youth in Government programs.
  • Gives presentations and trainings to schools, funders, students, and community organizations. Strong, energetic and authentically passionate public speaking skills required.
  • Responsible for brainstorming ideas with Director of Development & Recruitment and Executive Director.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently via phone and in-person with participants and teachers.
  • Participates in Annual Scholarship campaign; responsible for procuring $5,000 in donations.
  • Must be able to work independently on projects and multi-task
  • Organizational and time management skills are necessary for all aspects of the job
  • Contributor to program content pre, post and during programs.
  • Provides leadership at all conferences, events, and trainings, including high school and middle school Model Legislature and Court; Pawleys Leadership Conference, Resource Staff Training Retreat, YIG Leadership Training, YIG Day at the Statehouse, Middle School Model UN, Horizons, YCorps Institute, YCorps, CONA, NJC.
  • Position requires extensive travel; reliable transportation required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Superb public speaking skills.
  • Professional presentation and writing experience.
  • Experience working in professional/organizational partnerships.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience working independently on projects and with a team.
  • Ability to lift and move 35 pounds, have good mobility, and maintain high level of energy over an extended period of time.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the year, with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to large groups, over phone, electronic meetings and via email.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others
