This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Staff Accountant will prepare documentation for external audit and tax return completion. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger entries and will assist with cash management, the annual budget, and financial analysis, reporting and projections.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Prepare accounting related entries to general ledger
  • Follow our organization’s established accounting processes
  • Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain the fixed asset and associated depreciation schedules
  • Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting
  • Prepare documentation for external auditors
  • Assist controller and CFO with other accounting, financial and administrative tasks
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from a credible college or university required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2+ years’ experience in accounting or related field
  • Proficient in Word and Highly skilled in Excel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
  • Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to foster open communications and ensure excellent information flow
  • Ability to see “big picture” without loss of attention to detail
  • Incumbent must complete mandatory trainings of New Staff Orientation, BBP/Child Abuse Prevention, and CPR/First Aid/AED within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to speak two or languages preferred
