The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Wellness Program Director is responsible for advancing the overall Branch and Corporate Wellness programs, to include but not limited to, corporate group exercise, Wellness Works, performance training, personal training, staff supervision and development, budget management, and program innovation for the Branch. This position is responsible for establishing the YMCA as the leader and a pacesetter for health and wellness programs, and integrating wellness into the organization’s strategic vision and mission statement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Essential Functions

  • Directly supervises and provides leadership to the entire Health & Wellness department including Wellness Specialists, Group Exercise, Specialty Fitness Classes, Personal Training, Youth Fitness Programs and the overall oversight of the Wellness Center.
  • Exceed or meet membership retention goals through leading high member service and relationship building throughout all areas of the Health & Wellness department.
  • Implements strategies and plans that ensure the advancement and on-going building of a comprehensive wellness program, utilizing health and wellness best practices.
  • May perform the role of liaison to hospital administrators and PATH facilitators, physicians, and personnel.
  • Researches and keeps abreast of new trends, and analyzes data to determine and forecast needs and advancements for the Wellness program.
  • Tracks, maintains and analyzes program statistics, and reports results on a regular basis to management to ensure effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Determines and provides relevant community and/or healthcare resources that help support participant’s health changes.
  • Communicates, as needed, with service delivery partners, physicians, and other health professionals to provide coordination of health care resources and develop a plan of care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to locate and link a participant to community and healthcare resources.
  • Promotes wellness and provides education regarding preventative care measures.
  • Works with the Membership Director to develop collateral materials that will promote YMCA’s health and wellness programs to the public and current members.
  • Cultivate a member-focused staff team who are fully trained and educated to engage and support Health Seekers.
  • Creates, implements, and maintains programs that meet the needs of the community to help foster healthy lifestyles.
  • Prepare and manage department budget to assure financial and program goals are attained.
  • Assist in financial development through our Annual Giving Campaign

Non-Essential Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts meetings with staff to ensure compliance with established practices, implement new policies, and keep staff abreast of current changes and standards.
  • Maintains current certification in good standing, seeks professional development, and meets all certification requirements.
  • Initiates various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance reviews, promotions, vacation/work schedules, training, staff development and certifications, and terminations.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years supervisory experience in building and advancing wellness programs including experience working within a hospital environment and interfacing with physicians
  • Demonstrated experience in developing executive corporate wellness programs
  • Demonstrated ability to train wellness coaches and fitness instructors
  • Demonstrated sales ability to market and sell corporate membership to local companies
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills
  • Proven leader and team player with strong work ethic
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to present data in a concise, informative, and engaging manner
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service
  • Basic knowledge of PC, Windows-based environment, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • ACSM certification required. Equivalent Personal Training certifications negotiable (ACE, NSCA-PT, NETA)
  • Excercise is Medice (EIM) Level 2 certification perferred.
  • BBP, CPR, AED certifications required.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Demonstrated awareness and working knowledge of labor and disability laws
Compensation/Benefits: 

$42,807.00 - $53,508.00
