The YMCA of Greensboro has been in continuous operation since 1889. Since 2002, we have opened 2 completely new facilities (Stoney Creek and Ragsdale), built 3 more new buildings to replace aging or insufficient facilities (Bryan, Spears and Hayes-Taylor), renovated and expanded our resident camp facility (Camp Weaver) and merged with a neighboring Y to grow into the $17 million association that we are today.
The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities to achieve excellence in the following roles:
- Advocate the Vision of the YMCA and be the Heart and Soul of the Operation: Actively interact and communicate with YMCA members, donors, staff and volunteers, and be seen as an active and integral member of the community. Act as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision of the YMCA within the community, and be seen and respected as a leader. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the YMCA’s heritage.

- Build and Manage the Staff Team: Ensure that a talent management system is in place and executes effectively. The system will ensure that the YMCA has an outstanding, dedicated and culturally competent staff. Establish an individual development plan for each direct report. Hire, motivate, nurture, retain and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and sense of purpose. Create a learning organization.

- Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Work effectively with volunteers, stakeholders and key staff to develop a strategic road-map that addresses the needs of the Association, including defined organizational objectives and tactics. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the association.

- Manage Financial Resources: Ensure the Association’s financial resources are properly managed and report the organization’s financial position. Use high level of financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability. Lead organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments to successful financial operation. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

- Improve Operating Performance: Engage the board to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and quickly address any issues that might arise. Use operational and financial expertise to forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Association’s operations and activities.

Minimum Criteria for candidates:
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
- Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
- Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
- Fiscally sound business management approach.
- Strategic planning and Fundraising experience including annual and capital campaigns and the securing of grants.
- A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $3M or more annually.
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
- Salary Range: Commensurate with accomplishments and experience.
- Benefits: Benefits include medical and dental insurance partially paid by the Y. Life insurance of $50,000 is paid for by the Y and additional life insurance is available for purchase. The Y also provides short-and long-term disability coverage on a gross-up and deduct basis. Other optional benefits available for employee purchase include vision insurance and supplemental coverage for accident or critical illness through Allstate. Retirement contribution of 12%, Paid Annual Leave and other benefits per personnel policy included.
