Managing Director, Piedmont Triad

We are seeking a Managing Director of the Piedmont Triad (MD, PT) to work in partnership with the Piedmont Triad (Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem) community of leaders, build on lessons learned, and scale impact for students with greater pace and efficiency than ever before, ultimately working toward the day that every child in the Triad has the opportunity to attain an excellent education. The MD, Piedmont Triad will work to craft a compelling community vision, set local priorities, drive local fundraising and manage the ongoing engagement and stewardship of our supporters and partners, and partner with schools, community organizations and local leaders to forward the agenda in the Triad to transform educational opportunities for students and families.
The MD, Piedmont Triad will manage two Managers of Teacher Leadership Development and will report to the Executive Director, Charlotte-Piedmont Triad. The MD, PT will also serve as a member of the regional leadership team.

 External Affairs, Fundraising, Growth & Community Engagement (60%)

  • Create and communicate a vision for working in partnership with the community to end educational inequity
  • Serve as the face and voice of Teach For America in the Piedmont Triad
  • Work effectively with local media outlets and regional external affairs team to elevate our presence in the region
  • Build relationships and gain a deep knowledge of the political landscape to ensure Teach For America becomes part of the social and educational fabric of the region
  • Develop a plan for a strategy for growing our private financial support from district and charter partners
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive local regional fundraising strategy to increase our financial support from individual, foundation, and corporate revenue streams
  • Develop and manage a “Friends of Teach For America” engagement strategy that will help us maximize our impact in the region, including seeking a diverse group of stakeholders who have the influence and networks necessary to support the effort to reach our goals, setting a clear agenda for the group, and ensuring we maximize the potential impact of each stakeholder
  • Through partnership with schools and districts, develop an impact strategy for corps member and alumni talent that is aligned to both Teach For America’s theory of change and the vision of our partners
  • Create and manage the execution of a placement plan aligned to the impact strategy, fostering a strong match between corps member strengths and interests and school and district needs

Sub-Regional Leadership & People Management (30%)

  • Work with regional leadership team to set annual goals that are in line with our regional vision, strategic plan and core values
  • Develop and execute on sub-regional programmatic priorities
  • Set the tone and culture for the sub-region that models our core values
  • Manage the two Managers of Teacher Leadership Development, ensuring they are maximizing their individual potential and delivering high-quality supports to our members in the Piedmont Triad
  • Set the vision and goals for engaging, mobilizing and accelerating the leadership of our Piedmont Triad alumni within education, policy, organizing and social entrepreneurship

Fulfilling our Mission through Organizational and Regional Priorities (10%)

  • Participate in shared regional commitments such as biweekly staff meetings, quarterly staff retreats, communicating regularly with incoming corps members, and interviewing applicants to Teach For America
  • Meet compliance expectations for timesheet, expense report, and performance management documentation and submission
  • Support and participate in regional events, requiring occasional evening and weekend work
  • Exhibit a desire to learn and develop your cultural competence and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five to seven years of work experience preferred
  • Experience working in and with the Greensboro or broader Piedmont Triad community strongly preferred
  • Experience managing regional chapters or entities strongly preferred

Work Demands

  • Ability to work an average of 50 hours per week, majority during business hours
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Regular local travel via personal vehicle throughout North Carolina (Triad, Charlotte, Raleigh) required
  • Occasional travel to in-person meetings in various US cities (2-3 times per year)
