The Branch Executive Director is responsible for the operations of the Visser Family YMCA, with a budget size of $3 million, Membership base of 11,000 and facility size of 60,000 square feet. The Executive Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaborations with community agencies. The Branch Executive operates the branch in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Board of Directors and the Visser Family YMCA Branch Board of Directors. This position may involve early morning, evening, weekend responsibilities.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Organizes the branch annual giving campaign to increase dollars raised through direct asks and sustains its culture of philanthropy
- Ensures the branch achieves its annual operating budget targets
- Ensure that the Y adopts, creates, and maintains a robust and balanced platform of needed programs that are comprehensive, inclusive, and successfully implemented
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
Fiscal Management
- Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget
- Manages annual budget development, monitors monthly budget and year-end forecast for all program areas
- Operates program areas within directives and policies of the Association
- Maintains systems of financial control including revenues, expenses, and inventories
Financial Development
- Establishes sufficient revenue to provide services consistent with established goals
- Manages the Annual Campaign
- Provides leadership for Capital Development initiatives
- Develops and maintains relationships with current and potential funding sources, both private and public
- Cultivates donors from the membership base and the community
Program and Community Development
- Manages, develops and monitor’s program growth
- Develops innovative program efforts
- Manages off-site Childcare facilities and expands program services
Human Resource Management
- Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the branch departments
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
- Assists staff to identify and meet all development needs with action plans built into the next budget
- Sets goals and objectives for each staff member
- Makes annual salary increment recommendations
- Fills staff vacancies in accordance with established Association policies
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
- Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Facility Management
- Responsible for the overall safety, security, and general operations
- Responsible for the overall cleanness of the facility and grounds
- Maintains all areas in clean, presentable fashion
Membership Development and Retention
- Promotes the YMCA to the community through groups and corporations
- Provides outstanding member service
- Tours prospective members
- Handles member complaints
- Participates as Manager on Duty one night per week and weekend rotation
Volunteer Development
- Facilitates all Board of Director meetings
- Recruits, trains, and rewards a diverse volunteer group
- Cultivates volunteers from the membership base and community
- Five years YMCA Executive Director experience with direct experience recruiting and leading a board, board development, fundraising experience of a minimum of $50,000 annual campaign, budget development and control; personnel administration; revenue generation; community development and collaboration experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and years experience at a comparable organization.
- Not-for-profit experience; demonstrated success in annual giving or capital campaigns, proven record of building community support with fundraising
- Demonstrated capability to conceptualize strategic issues
- Ability to communicate and motivate others about the YMCA, its mission and programs
- Experience in leading a complex organization and demonstrated ability to manage significant annual budget responsibility of a minimum of $2M.
- Ability and desire to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
- Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
- Experience in setting high standards, motivating a team, seeking out personal development opportunities, and manage high volume demands and manage personal stress
- Ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year time span
- Ability to convey credibility and expertise to donors and board members
- Ability to communicate professionally and persuasively both orally and in writing
- Ease in initiating contact with persons not known, in person and by phone
- Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications
Salary: $68,000.00 - $85,000.00
