The Spartan Stores YMCA Executive Director is responsible for the development and management of the strategic planning process that engages volunteers and staff from all segments of the organization in setting the long term and annual direction. The Executive Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaborations with community agencies. The Branch Executive Director operates the branch (with an operating budget of $6.7 million) in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Board of Directors and the Spartan Stores YMCA Branch Board of Directors. This position will involve early morning, evening, weekend, and pager responsibilities.
Financial Development
- Establishes sufficient revenue to provide services consistent with established goals
- Leads the Spartan Stores Family Annual Campaign & supports direct report branches on their Annual Campaign
- Provides leadership for Capital Development initiatives
- Develops and maintains relationships with current and potential funding sources, both private and public
- Cultivates donors for the membership base and the community
- Assists in elements of Heritage Club
Volunteer Development
- Work with Branch Boards of Management to achieve a high degree of understanding of the concept of “The Association and the policies and procedures that govern the organization.”
- Establishes credibility throughout the association, community, and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
- Facilitates all Board of Manager meetings
- Recruits, trains, and rewards a diverse volunteer group
- Cultivates volunteers from the membership base and community
Human Resource Management
- Manages 5-7 management employees and approimately 200 part-time employees
- Builds, develops and manages the operations leadership team capable of carrying out needed operations strategies and improving employee relations
- Provides leadership and management to ensure the mission and core values of the YMCA are put into practice
- Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the branch
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
- Assists staff to identify and meet all development needs with action plans built into the next budget
- Sets goals and objectives for each employee
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
- Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Program & Membership Development and Retention
- Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships
- Manages, develops and monitors program growth
Caledonia Childcare, and Before & After School programs
- Develops innovative community program efforts
- Manages off-site facilities including Childcare, and Before & After School programs and expands these program services
- Promotes the YMCA to the community through groups and corporations
Fiscal Management
- Provides leadership for the branch operating budgets
- Serves as staff liaison to the Branch Board Finance Committee
- Maintains systems of finical control including revenue, expenses, and inventories
