Under the Direction of the Executive Director of Childcare Services, the Association Child Care Specialist is responsible for assisting in ensuring the successful operation of all facets of the Association Child Care including full day, before and after school, and summer day camp programs including curriculum, quality standards, outcomes and measurements, staffing, training and development, program development, volunteer recruitment, financial development, community relations and collaborations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assists in providing leadership and direction to the on-site and off-site child care programs by acting as a liaison between child care directors, branch executives, and senior leadership.
- Develops new options, evaluates childcare opportunities, and assists in implementing new sites or programs that position the YMCA in the community to meet the needs of children and families.
- Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Monitors and supports growth in program scope and quality, resulting in annual targeted enrollments and revenue being met or exceeded. Develops and implements action steps to improve programs quality and enrollment.
- Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are cotrolled.
- Develops quality improvement goals with programs based on participant survey feedback (SEER).
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Works with all child care programs towards meeting any objectives for strategic plan goals.
- Support Child Care Directors in managing performance of direct reports.
- Assists in the implementation of childcare systems, forms, procedures. Maintains consistency from site to site.
- Oversees the Y’s NAEYC accreditation for all sites; oversee collection, storage, and retention of applicable records.
- Oversees and audits childcare staff educational and licensing requirements; coordinate ongoing staff development and training; ensures compliance.
- Recommends appropriate staffing plans to meet ratio requirements.
- Supports Child Care Directors in recruiting, orientating, and enrolling of staff, and children/families.
- Recommends purchases of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys, equipment, and games designed to stimulate learning.
- Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations
- Oversees the maintenance of child care food program records
- Maintain compliance with all state licensing regulations, including fire and health codes
- Develops relationships with area schools
- Liaison to YUSA
- Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university in early education, human services, business, social services or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.;
Skills/Experience:
- Eight or more years’ experience in licensed child care management and development; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to be listed on a childcare license required.
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of early education operations, including curriculum development, staff supervision and development, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and sound financial practices.
- Past supervision experience preferred. Familiarity with and adherence to the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
- Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. Blood borne pathogens training required upon hire.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00
