The Associate Executive Director assists with the management and operation of the Spartan Stores YMCA. The Associate Executive Director oversees the management of the Aquatics, Health and Wellness (who oversees Youth and Family), Membership, and Child Care Departments as well as the operation of the branch in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Board of Directors and the Spartan Stores YMCA Branch Board of Managers. This position may involve early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities.
Areas of Responsibility:
Human Resource Management
- Manages 4 (four) full time exempt directors and oversees the branch Health and Wellness Director, Aquatics, Membership, and Child Care Department Directors, supervises their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
- Conducts annual performance reviews and recommends annual salary adjustments
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff in accordance with established Association policies; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Program Development
- Manages and monitors program growth and quality in Health and Wellness, Aquatics, Youth and Family, Membership, and Child Care Departments
- Develops and maintains relationships and visibility within the community including relationships with local school districts
- Responsible for oversight of summer day camp, including programming, staffing, including meeting accreditation and state licensing requirements
- Increases participation and expands programming within the community in accordance with Association/Branch strategic and operating plans
- Engages volunteers and supports their development
- Uses the Y Voice to effectively tell the YMCA story
- Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
Fiscal Management
- Manages and monitors the branch operating budget and annual budget development for assigned departments
- Operates program areas within directives and policies of the Association
- Maintains systems of financial control including revenues, expenses, and inventories
Financial Development
- Establishes sufficient revenue to provide services consistent with established goals
- Actively participates in and supports the goals of the Annual Campaign through building relationships, engaging volunteers and carrying out other assigned fund raising duties.
- Provides leadership and support to volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community
- Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university, Master’s degree preferred;
Skills/Experience:
- Three to five years of department head management and YMCA Senior Program Director experience, program development, budget management, fundraising, and community collaboration experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- YMCA or Not-for-Profit Management experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $56,700.00 - $70,000.00
