The Board of Directors is seeking a visionary, influential leader who will advance the current mission-driven culture of excellence at the Y and who can build strong relationships in the communities served by the Y. The leader must have demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing effective strategic approaches to addressing community needs and positioning the Y as an indispensable community asset.
This position requires strong skills and competencies including, but not limited to: strategic planning and implementation, financial and fundraising expertise, development and implementation of successful public/private community collaborations/partnerships, experience in overseeing successful program operations, staff development; membership growth.
The CEO will be visible in the community and will play a leadership role in the development of meaningful community partnerships, positioning the Y as a strong charitable partner.
Key Deliverables and requirements for the CEO include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Have the ability to work effectively with board of directors, volunteers, community leaders and key staff to identify critical community needs and develop a strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.

- Lead a Culture of Philanthropy: Effectively lead the organization to embrace a member and donor-centered atmosphere. Assure that everyone in the organization, from the front-line staff to the board chair, understands that philanthropy and fund development are critical to the organizational health and that each individual has a role in that process. Serve as the leader who supports the organization in its fundraising efforts by establishing a plan for how the organization will raise contributed dollars for service growth and keep membership and programs affordable for all. Position the Y as a charity of choice by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with community leaders and donors.

- Fiscal Management: Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position. Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

- Advocate the Vision of the Y serving as a Cause-Driven Leader: Inspiring and mobilizing every community member and every Y staff member, program volunteer, board volunteer, and Y member—everywhere the Y has a presence—to make our communities stronger. Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers and be seen as an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y and be seen and respected as a community leader. Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the Y.

- Improve Operating Performance: Partner with the board to identify issues and develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives to solve them. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and be able to quickly address issues that arise as well as forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

Base Criteria:
- Experience in preparing and managing a budget in excess of $2.5 million
- Strong financial acumen
- Experience working collaboratively in community private/public partnerships
- Minimum 5 years experience in a senior level management role with the Y or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff
- Experience in leading and developing boards
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Personal values consistent with the Y mission
Preferred Attributes:
- Fundraising experience, including major gift experience with documented results
- A track record for building and leveraging community partnerships and alliances to achieve organizational goals. Experience in successful development and implementation of strategic plan. Strong leadership expertise.
- Y Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain this certification via the Y-USA Training and Leadership Development criterion.)
Salary Range:$85,000 - $104,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.
