This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childhood Education Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA programming.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages, directs and coordinates the childhood education programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Teach/lead activities or provide direct service as needed to meet ratios and participant needs.
- Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality
- Monitors program operations, equipment, files and facilities, to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, including ADA accommodations, where appropriate.
- Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
- Compiles program statistics. Evaluates and makes modifications to maintain effective program.
- Organizes special events for families.
- Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings.
- Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent. Must meet Director-level licensing requirements.
Skills/Experience:
- One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
- Must be at least 19 years (NE) or 21 (IA) years of age.
- Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, including ADA compliance and successful clearance of background check.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $40,000.00
