This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Executive Director, Information Technology manages, evaluates, maintains, and improves, when needed, information system technologies to support the staff and members.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages and oversees all aspects of information systems including technology infrastructure, software development (internal and outward facing systems), networking, third party vendor management, cyber-security and reporting. Develops and manages system security, including back up processes. 
  • Evaluates issues pertaining to information systems for strategic planning and innovation.Anticipates risk, implications, and possible outcomes before taking action. Proactively recognizes areas of opportunity and demonstrates creativity in developing cost effective solutions.
  • Researches and identifies new technology trends that relate to the YMCA’s needs and makes recommendations. Seeks input from key stakeholders to develop or improve new information systems.  Uses best practices, guidelines, and industry standards as a framework to improve performance. 
  • Creates standards and policies related to all areas of information technology.
  • Develops and monitors budgets related to information technology. Monitors the costs involved in maintaining and improving information systems, including equipment and software. Evaluates and recommends technology purchases based on the YMCA’s needs.
  • Fosters a culture of service orientated, positive, productive, and engaged technology professionals who demonstrate a genuine sense of urgency and care for employees, members and vendors, leading to improved technology outcomes, strong member growth and engagement. 
  • Gathers relevant, valid data to make appropriate decisions regarding the organization’s information systems, phone system and other technology needs/solutions. Interprets data, feedback, and information, differentiating among assumptions, anecdotal evidence, and facts. Anticipates risk, implications, and possible outcomes before taking action. Weighs pros and cons of multiple options to make decisions about complex problems.
  • Translates organizational goals into executable plans with accountable staff by defining tasks, milestones, and priorities for programs and projects. Delegates responsibilities and monitors progress towards goals. Challenges inefficient or ineffective work processes and offers constructive alternatives. Demonstrates flexibility when plans or situations change unexpectedly, effectively adjusting plans to achieve intended outcomes.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the department, with vendors and key volunteers, and with leadership staff.
  • Oversees vendor contracts.
  • Ensures proper operating procedures are in place in regard to technology and provides training as needed or assigned.
  • Provides continuous reports/information/updates to leadership and committee members/volunteers, and attends appropriate committee meetings, as assigned.
  • Actively participates in designated meetings, special events, and training sessions.
  • Ensures training and support is provided to users.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in business administration, information technology or related field, or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 10 years of previous professional and/or management level IT experience; understanding of technology needs and systems of YMCA.
  • Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
  •  Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in the areas of information technology.
  •  Proven track record with integrated systems delivering cost-effective, member-orientated integrations and solutions.
  • Solid understanding and application of “change-management” and software tools to assure seamless operational and technology changes/improvements.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  •  Ability to research and implement new technologies and solutions.
  • Skills in problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and to train and instruct users.
