Organizes, monitors, supervises, and maintains youth programming. Provides leadership, instruction and motivation for program participants. Provides a quality experience to members focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Areas of Responsibility:
Planning and Program Delivery:
- Plan, coordinate and implement special events, sports leagues, programs open to all members.
- Assist in the planning of curriculum and coordinate class schedules with other staff and programs to enhance participation levels and meet the goals and objectives of the Youth Department.
- Establish new program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- May develop or assist in the marketing and distribution of program information, organize and schedule program registrations.
- Administer program evaluations of all classes and leagues.
- Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Track hourly usage to ensure the department has enough staff for safety.
- Provide a clean and well-maintained program area.
Collaborate:
- Develop relationships within the local school districts and with community leaders to ensure available programming space and facilities, and to assist in sponsoring youth programs/events.
- Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
Fiscal Management:
- Manage and implement the approved program budget.
- Research and purchase new equipment.
- Utilize purchase orders, check requests and expense reports per association policies. Use a system to track and monitor ongoing expenses, purchase orders and inventory.
Supervision:
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff and volunteers as needed.
- Work in collaboration with senior management to review and evaluate staff performance.
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Support development and implementation of program specific volunteer training program. Assist staff in identifying productive and creative volunteer roles.
- Review, approve, and submit staff time cards to payroll department per schedule.
- Track volunteer hours and record appropriately.
- Schedule shifts and process time off request forms for staff.
- Provide all departmental staff with professional development.
- Ensure that all mandatory training is scheduled and funded.
Financial Development and Philanthropy:
- Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
- Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
- Develop relationships with internal/external members to secure and support branch financial development success.
- Provide training and equip staff with tools to better communicate our cause.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree and/or two years related knowledge and experience that includes supervision, fiscal management, program development, staff and volunteer development.
Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge of various sports, games and activities, rules and regulations and the ability to teach youth and young adults.
- Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated skills in customer service, public relations, organizational skills, communications, supervision, computer knowledge, and file maintenance.
- Current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional, AED First Aid and Oxygen certifications.
- Online trainings and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date and other required trainings within 60 days.
Compensation/Benefits:
