If hired for this position you will provide an impactful experience by teaching self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership - all amidst the fun of camp fires, bugle calls, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships. You will make sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
In this position you will supervise the overall operation of the summer resident, day camp and family camp programs, trips, teen leadership and teen trips programs. You will encourage program development and growth for summer camping programs, hire and supervise summer staff, and strategically manage relationships to deepen connections with parents and guests of camp.
In this position you will be able to use your skills to:
Make great decisions:
- Evaluate, plan, develop, implement, and actively participate in quality summer programming consistent with the program goals of YMCA Camp Seymour and the mission of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
- Publicity, promotions, tracking and sales management for summer and family camp programs.
- Prepare, monitor, and report regularly on departmental budget.
Provide quality results:
- Achieve revenue goals and manage expenses, for dept. 31 as defined in annual operating budget to ensure positive outcome.
- Establish and maintain a high camper return rate (53% or better).
- Maintain high staff morale and low staff turnover.
Collaborate:
- Work with Senior Groups Program Director to provide non-summer group use of Challenge course.
- Work closely with Marketing Director and association staff to ensure that camp programs are promoted to the membership throughout the association, to the general public, and seeking any/all promotional opportunities.
- Serve as staff officer on 2 of the Advisory Council Committees (TBD).
Build Relationships:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitate communication and provide leadership.
- Provide leadership in coordinating staff and resources before and during American Camping Association accreditation visits.
- In cooperation with Executive Director, provided key staff leadership for Annual Campaign and summer giving programs.
- I have a minimum of three years of experience directing summer resident camping and/or youth programs.
- I can work well with members and staff of all ages.
- I have a practical understanding of summer camp programs.
- I have the ability to direct programs through development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fund-raising.
- I have or commit to obtaining Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications.
