Areas of Responsibility: 

PRE OPENING:
Engaged in all facets of new family center opening including:

  • Assisting the membership team with prospecting, lead cultivation, and follow up
  • Working with the membership team at a temporary onsite sales center during construction
  • Touring, selling, and closing prospective members
  • Promptly respond to all family center related inquiries 
  • In partnership with the Center Executive Director, build community relationships to support the ongoing flow of traffic into the sales center, including participation in local community events and organizations
  • Recruiting, onboarding, and training a talented team of best in class wellness associates prior to center opening
  • Auditioning and hiring best in class group fitness instructors
  • Coordinating logistics of complete Wellness Center move-in

POST OPENING:
Membership Enrollment, Engagement and Retention

  • Assist with membership enrollment including giving cause-driven tours, closing membership sales, motivating the wellness team to deliver best in class member service.
  • Collaborate with Association Wellness Executive to ensure proper delivery and evaluation of wellness services
  • Work in an extremely fast-paced environment and be visible throughout the center, building relationships with members and associates.
  • Help new members find the wellness options that work best for them and get them engaged
  • Leverage marketing resources and drive frequent/regular, social media communications and engagement.
  • Increases member connection and commitment to YMCA wellness programs and services ensuring the member experience is consistent, integrated and aligned to YMCA goals including:
    • Gathers data about member satisfaction and interests to ensure connection to programs, services, and other members.
    • Collaborates regularly with center leadership, program operations, and other related teams to ensure the member experience is consistent, integrated and aligned with member needs.
    • Oversees new and returning member orientation to wellness programs.
    • Implements relationship development strategies to increase membership engagement and retention.

Group Fitness and Wellness Center Operations 

  • Provides leadership to group fitness and wellness center operations and administration to ensure a best in class member experience.
    • Supervises/coaches team and ensures group fitness and wellness center operations align with member experience, engagement and retention goals.
    • Ensures that group fitness schedule includes a variety of classes that serve multiple demographics at multiple times throughout each day, including early morning, evenings and weekends.
    • Is regularly focused on getting members connected to associates, programs and other members.
    • Ensures that fitness equipment is regularly maintained with minimal down time.
    • Responds promptly to member feedback regarding group fitness and wellness programs.
    • Ensures adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and associates.

Team Leadership 

  • Hire, develop, motivate and retain a team of wellness associates committed to the YMCA’s mission and Promise.
  • Advocates for association-wide practices and is a source for innovative ways to enhance the member experience through new group fitness programs, wellness challenges, leveraging technology and more.
  • Provides collaborative leadership and guidance to peers through association-wide wellness meetings, direct one-on-one best practice sharing with peers both in and outside the center, as well as in YPN.
  • Develops and monitors associate development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
  • Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required.
  • Assists with other areas as assigned. 
Educational Background: 
BA/BS in exercise science, or health-related field or combined equivalent education and experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a high volume, relationship-driven, service-centered environment. Prior experience opening a new Y/similar organization preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of wellness supervision experience in a variety of wellness environments including personal training, group fitness and specialty wellness programs preferred. Prior experience managing both full time and part time personnel ideal.
  • Supervision of a wellness department at a 3,000+ membership unit YMCA or equivalency preferred 
  • Supervision of budget exceeding $1M preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of highly attended group fitness classes, highly engaged wellness floor associates and meeting/exceeding personal training revenue targets.
  • Must have a passion for exercise, nutrition, healthy living and helping others live a healthier lifestyle. 
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet/exceed goals. Strategically planning and tactical execution experience that resulted in achievement of goals. Self-driven with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.

Certifications/Trainings Required:

  • Must obtain and maintain current certification in a Tampa YMCA approved program in personal training, group fitness instructor, and Healthy Lifestyle Principles.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
  • Maintain position-specific required certifications as stated in the training matrix.
