The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative assistance in the Geneva office. The Geneva office serves as an important base for HRW’s development, fundraising, and outreach activities in Geneva and in the region. This position is part-time at 20 hours a week (50% schedule) and requires availability to work occasional night events. The Associate reports to the Director of Development and Outreach, based in Geneva.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Providing administrative support to the department such as scheduling, making travel arrangements, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, preparing background materials, processing mail, responding to inquiries, and processing and tracking department expenses; 
  • Assisting with the organization and coordination of logistics and materials for events in Geneva, such as Committee meetings, outreach events, and annual dinners; 
  • Maintaining the Raiser's Edge database by ensuring accurate and timely recordings of all campaigns, appeals, gifts, and contact information, generating financial reports, lists and queries, and updating information;
  • Assisting with donor relations including writing gift acknowledgment letters and tracking communication with Geneva Committee members, donors, and supporters; 
  • Coordinating and managing development web content, newsletters, Facebook page, and e-mails;
  • Assisting with the administration of major gifts prospects and undertaking prospect research;
  • Assisting with the recruitment and training of interns; and 
  • Carrying out other duties as required.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree in human rights, international relations, social science, or a related field is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French are essential.
  • Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills are required. 
  • Strong interest in international human rights is required. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including donors are required. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required. 
  • Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in locations globally are required. 
  • Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and donor databases, as well as knowledge of web management and html, are strongly desired.
